CHAPTER 17: I'm Ready

RUBY

I was laying in bed and just waking up when I felt Boulders' arms wrap around me and snuggle close to me as I felt him kissing my neck.

"Mmm...Good morning." I tell him while rolling on my back looking at him and smiling.

"Where did you go in the middle of the night?" I ask.

"We had a a rogue sneek onto our territory last night and the guys needed me to take a look at it. It was nothing." He tells me before starting to close his eyes.

"Okay." I tell him although I get this feeling that maybe he isn't telling me something. However, I'll leave it alone for now. I'm sure anyways that if it was bad he would tell me.

Today Kathleen thought it would be a good idea of me, her, Mike and Boulder all sat down together and talked about me and him mating and him turning me. Which makes sense, although I haven't really thought about it really. We just started getting to know each other, was I really ready to talk about it? Was I willing to do it? Was there any way around it?

Right as we sit down at the table, I start to feel nervous as if I'm in an interview for a very important job, which in a way it is.

"Alright." Kathleen begins. "First of all, since you already know that you and Boulder are mates, then you obviously know what comes with that." She says.

"Yeah." I reply. "It means that I have to become a wolf myself." I reply.

"Yes." She says.

"And when does that have to be?" I ask.

"It's whenever you're ready." Boulder chimes in as he takes a hold of my hand.

"But there's a time limit, right?" I ask.

"Yeah. But you don't have to worry about that. What you need to focus on right now is making the decision if rather or not you are willing to give up your human life." She finishes.

I see everyone is looking at me now wondering what I'm going to say but yet I know they are hoping that I say yes. In which, don't get me wrong, I do feel closer to Boulder, but this is like an engagement to be married. We still barely know each other and live in a world where our kinds are looked down on.

Not saying of course my human life is any better but I don't know.

"Ruby? You don't have to decide right now. However, you will need to decide by the end this month." Boulder says.

"Why then?" I ask.

"Because since I have found my mate, it is tradition and necessary to announce you to everyone at the annual ball the council throws every year on New Years." He tells me.

"Oh." I reply under my breath. "So you're saying I have to make my decision by then and also be turned by then?"

"Yeah." Mike says.

"The reason for all of this sudden urgency is because they will know that you are a servant. But if you decide, you'd like him to turn you and to be his mate, we can train you as much as we can so that you can get to know your wolf and in case anyone tries to challenge you, you'll be ready." Kathleen mentions.

"Wait a minute, hold up, CHALLENGE me?" I asked confused. "Why would somebody do that?"

"Because it's what many do when they see someone new. Especially, someone who happens to be his mate." She smirks.

I look at Boulder who does a quick smirk and then looks down at our hands holding each other's.

"Okay." I reply.

"Okay what?" Kathleen asks me.

"I will think about it and will have a definite answer by tomorrow." I promise them.

I then excuse myself and start walking upstairs into the bedroom and begin pacing back and forth thinking.

"Ruby?" I hear Boulder knock on the door as he opens the door.

"Yeah?" I reply while wiping tears from my eyes.

"Don't cry. Whatever you decide I will understand. No matter how hard it is." He says.

I have him look at me.

"I love you. I want to be with you. It's just, I'm scared." I tell him.

"Of what?" He asks concerned.

"I'm afraid that when you turn me that I'll be weak and I'll embarrass you. Plus, if the council reject me, then what?" I ask him.

"Then that's just too bad. If a human and a wolf were to mate but were not destined and brought together by fate and the decision of the Moon Goddess as you and me have been, then there would be a problem. They can't go against the Moon Goddess' decision." He assure me with a smile.

"Really?" I ask.

"I promise. It would go against the wolf's law." He tells me.

"Okay then. Let's do it. Make me become one with you or whatever you guys call it." I chuckle at myself from the embarrassment of saying that. It sounded stupid to say.

"That's a perfect way to describe it." He smiles at me and we lean in closer and start sharing a long passionate kiss with each other.
