I didn't realize what was happening until my father was running with my limp body and I was running beside him. I stopped running and faced my scar covered, beastly, none human grandmother. Somehow I took over her body and she screamed.
I felt her body start convulsing and she continued to scream. I jumped from being terrified and came back out of her body. The burning sensation in my throat and mouth disappeared. Why?
I looked at my body and there was blood all over me. It wasn't my blood though. I looked at my grandmother and noticed that she had became a great deal paler. What was going on? I ran back to my father who had stopped and watched his mother writhe around on the ground.
I went back into my body that was no longer covered in blood. The feeling of pure exhilaration washed over me. "Shadow?" My father questioned.
"Yes," I mumbled knowing that he could hear me.
"Why did you do that?" His question surprised me.
"I didn't mean to. It just happened." I sputtered.
"Okay, well?" I was deeply confused by now.
"What?" I asked with a startled expression.
"Do you feel pain in your throat? Do you feel renewed? Are you okay?" His questions were rapid fire and I had no time to answer all of them.
"My throat's fine now and I feel perfectly fine." I said and he looked at me closely.
"Okay, no one's here so we might as well leave." He said and set me on my own two feet.
"Thank you." I said and noticed his surprised expression.
"Why do you say that?" He asked and his expression returned to normal.
"I say that because you carried me and saved me even though you didn't have to." He nodded understanding and I smiled.
"What?" He asked and I realized I had a question raising in my mind.
"What was my mother like?" He looked as if he was about to break the entirety of someone.
"Why do you ask?" There was a dark and deadly note to his voice.
"I... I... I just wanted to know." I stumbled over my words.
"First things first, her name was Shadalay. Second, she was the most beautiful creature in the world." As we were speaking we started walking to his house.
"How much did you love her?"
"There's no measurement in this world that would allow you to know how much I loved her. She was beyond words of beauty." He said and I had to agree. I saw what she looked like in the phases of memory I had experienced. Even when she was broken and beaten she looked amazing; sadly I hated that.
"I guess now is a good time to tell you that I saw some memories of you." I said and he nodded.
"Which memories did you see?"
"I saw one of you as a child running around and playing. Then you started screaming." When I said the first memory I could tell he was trying to hide the pain.
"Please continue." He said and I noticed how hard he tried to maintain his composure.
"Second, I saw you and my mother dancing and laughing with each other." His sullen look only deepened by those words.
"Continue!" He yelled and I winced but continued on anyways.
"Then I saw you beside her before she died. I also saw us fight three people and then you and I stood up with you holding me." I finished and the pain was all to evident in his eyes.
"Shadow?" He asked and I looked up to meet his gaze while we both stopped in our tracks.
"Yes papa?"
"Do you want to go to the spirit realm when we get home?"
"Um... why?"
"Because I'm going and I figured it would be good to teach you how to go to and from the spirit realm. Also, I'm pretty sure Gorlorg would love to finally start your training. Mikal?" He finished and then appeared to be having a conversation in his head.
"Oh, of course you can. I just have a new guest in the house."
"No, no, no, don't worry. I'm pretty sure you already know her."
"What?! I'm going to kill you!" The conversation continued until we arrived at his house and I was utterly confused.
"Hello?" I said as we walked in and I tried to get his attention
"Oh, sorry. I'm Mikal." He said and I was in total confusion.
"But... but I thought Matsu was teaching me how to enter the spirit realm."
"I can also teach you that if you would like. I may not be a spirit but I have some experience with going to the spirit realm when Matsu takes over."
"That sounds reasonable. I would be happy for your help." I noticed a small blush forming on his cheeks.
"Okay, follow me." He said and led me to a small bedroom and told me to lie down.
"Why do I need to lie down?"
"If you don't you could possibly harm yourself. When you leave your body behind your soul rips apart your outer being. Thus causing small cuts and bruises to form along your skin." He stated and I nodded understanding.
"We don't want you to fall after already being hurt." He said and I continued to nod.
I laid down on the bed facedown. "Alright, what I want you to do next is simply close your eyes and image yourself in the soul realm with Matsu." He said and I tried but nothing happened.
"Okay, let's try that again." He said and I tried again but nothing happened. "Hmm... I think I know what's wrong and how to fix it but you probably won't like it."
"What is it?" I really and truly wanted to know that way I can join my father and learn some new things.
"I think you only know how to control yourself when you're in immediate danger and you have no where else to go. Now, we can help but that means we have to put you in danger. If it fails you could possibly die." Well, that's great. Either, I live and learn to control myself. Or... I die and maybe five people will care.
"Okay, lets do it." I said finally after a long pause.
"Alright but you do understand the conditions?"
"Yes, I just need you to promise something."
"What do you need?" He asked with worry.
"If I do die and that's a big if. Don't tell anyone how it happened." He looked surprised and I smiled at him.
