tran·quil | adj. | free from disturbance; calm

"I REFUSE," She shook her head determinedly, accusingly pointing a pen at her roommate and popping the end back into her mouth to nervously chew on it again. Chip, formally known as Charlie, sat up. His white hoodie moved with his movements, red shirt scrunching up underneath as the ripped part of his jeans, near his knees, widened slightly.

He smirked, tilting his head and gesturing to the pile of forms before them. "That's what you always say, Y/n." Who knew senior year could mean this much on cracking down? Y/n had only ever suspected that junior year would be the hardest, with colleges counting that as your last year, a pair of strict parents with the eyes of a hawk, and multiple exams.

It couldn't have possibly gotten worse. Unfortunately, it did. After finishing up her junior year of high school, her parents had practically urged her out of the house. Their excuse had been for her to 'get used to roommate life since it'd be like that in college'. Though, Y/n wasn't exactly complaining. Being in a quiet and cozy flat with your best friend shouldn't be irritating in the least.

Right now, it was the least bit of quiet and cozy. On the table, multiple college forms and an amused Chip. The smart-ass himself had decided to do his forms before hand, over the summer, leaving his closest friend to slave away at the forms at the beginning of the school year. Marking September, school recently just decided to awaken, killing everyone's morale instantly.

"And I mean it every time, Chip." She retorted with a roll of her e/c eyes, fingers tapping anxiously against the arm of the chair. A desperate groan escaped her lips, the girl dramatically slumping to the floor. Her roommate raised a brow, chuckling softly while flipping through some of the papers.

This time, a horrendous and painful shriek came out of her. "Jesus, keep your vocals at a low! These aren't soundproof walls, y'know!" Instead of Y/n making another weird noise out of spite or stopping instantly, the girl giggled with a twist of odd humor. Turning her head, it bumped against the edge of the seat and felt slightly uncomfortable.

"You rhymed," She went into a fit of laughter, fully falling against the floor and rolling on the floor before hitting one of the legs of the coffee table that held all of her blank college applications. The male rolled his eyes, scoffing at his friend's childish behavior. "Alright, alright. I'm going to go pick up some take out for tonight, I'll be back in an hour."

Leaving the apartment and wandering around on the streets at night was Chip's way of unwinding. It allowed him to think, leaving him in the open area where his thoughts didn't rebound into negativity. When they first moved in together, Y/n had asked him about it. "Sometimes loneliness feels nice," He'd replied.

Though he said he'd be back in an hour, Y/n knew it'd be at least another two hours until he came home. Luckily, it was only seven P.M., but as the temperatures grew colder, the nights got colder. A nine P.M. dinner wasn't that bad, it was a pretty stable schedule for the most part, but the undying disappointment of having to go to school the next day still lingered.

Chip grabbed his keys, his phone already being in his pocket out of habit and constant practice. Time passed, Y/n gradually losing interest in her empty college applications and transferring it to their flat screen TV equipped with Netflix and Hulu. As The Office theme song started up, the window released a loud rap rap noise.

Confused and slightly concerned, she moved the blinds up. With a joyous smile, she fully moved them away before unlocking the window and letting the hero crawl in. Pushing the mask up to his nose, he returned the knowing grin at her before enveloping her lips with his. "Hey, sweetheart." He greeted her, mumbling against her lips.

Y/n pulled away, hands tracing along his chest whilst her eyes studied his face, half-covered and half-revealed. "Is Chip around?" Spider-Man questioned, picking at the edge of his mask while she shook her head lightly. "Nope, not at all. He went out for another one of those walks of his." She mused, giggling softly and hugging him gently.

As always, they were soft, warm, and comforting. Practically melting into jelly in his arms, her eyes closed as she reflected over past events; something she tended to do in soft moments like these. Of course, it all started when she met the damn boy. For it being New York, the way they met was a bit chaotic, but not that unfamiliar compared to something that happened weekly.

When Charlie was sick during his junior year of high school, he couldn't afford to go to his tutor for his pre-calculus class, his grade in that class drastically dropping after the last test for the third quarter. On her way home from picking up his practice packets, a woman just happened to be kicking out her crazy ex.

According to Spidey, she'd pushed his entire PC out of the window, breaking the window. Luckily, right when she was walking under it, Spidey had swung in and took her away. He'd saved her from the shower of glass shards, the angry ex being yelled at afterwards by Y/n herself.

He'd ended up taking the still furious Y/n home, packets of work in her arms. Crawling in through her bedroom window, she thanked him and put the paper away. Showing hospitality, Y/n had offered him a steaming cup of coffee. Being a tired junior student attempting to keep up with his classes and alter ego, Spidey desperately agreed.

After brewing the drink, Y/n returned with it in hand to see a passed out superhero on her floor. Seeing that he was a literal hybrid who was incredibly heavy and strong, Y/n had only managed to roll him over, which took nearly fifteen minutes itself. Being forced to wake her roommate up, the boy had nearly screamed in fear and threw the coffee at him.

Analyzing the scene, Chip and Y/n had heaved Spider-Man onto her bed before they both crashed on Chip's bed. It's not like they were bothered anyways, they'd always considered each other siblings, and if anything, he wasn't going to try something with her. Right after he woke up, Spidey apologized with a note before leaving out the window.

Throughout the months that passed by, including his summer break, the two kept in touch and little jokes and brief conversations turned into snuggles and binge watching different Netflix series. Spidey broke it, her head tucked under his chin as he spoke quietly. "What're you thinking about?" She smiled, serenely shaking her head. "Nothing, nothing at all."
