『down·fall | noun | a loss of power, prosperity, or status』
PETER LAUGHED, his head tilting back as the couple relaxed near the fireplace. His head nearly hit the built up of bricks that adorned the fireplace and made it look so pretty. On the stack of bricks, a sleek black shelf filled with different decorations such as pictures or a little ceramic vase sat on top of it.
Marie looked up, amused before looking back down at her book and getting Nathaniel's attention to point something out. He read it briefly, nodding and explaining something to her shortly after. Viva, on the other hand, was busy outside and doing expert stunts when it came to the entirety of skiing.
Ebony was tying her hair up, laying on the floor with Ned as the two childishly kicked their legs up in the air and wore cute nerdy matching pajamas. Their feet were covered in fuzzy socks as they swung their legs from the front to the back, the two staring down at an assortment of Star Wars fan-made shit-posts.
"It feels so cozy and warm in here," Y/n closed her eyes in bliss, energized and happy at the action that Peter had pulled earlier in the bus. Peter was absolutely adorable and kind to do that, only making her heart warm at the thought. Her head was rested against his shoulder, the action becoming a usual thing at this point.
He nods along with her statement, humming. His own music was blaring through his earbuds while his girlfriend was cuddled up in a maroon sweater that belonged to him and a nice novel that she'd read back in France. It was a sweet romance story that stayed soft, talking about how the feeling of love was incredible.
Y/n was never the incredibly sappy type, but getting into touch with the precious feelings of euphoria, affection, and sadness seemed to unlock a different type of person within her. Peter learned that the hard way. The way that she'd cry every time a dog died in a movie (not that Peter wouldn't).
Along with how she'd scream and run around the apartment, overjoyed on how she got a passing grade on her exam. Lastly, her affection could never be too much for him and he wouldn't categorize that as a hard way to learn. He enjoyed her little kisses and the small ways she'd show her love.
Sometimes she'd go all out and Peter would come home to a nicely cooked dinner, a nice movie, and some other things. Other times, it was precious moments like this. He let her rest against him, the boy smiling. "How about we go skiing?" Y/n looked up with brows furrowed, head tilted. "Huh?" His smile broadened. "Let's go skiing."
It had been hours since then, the two going up the ski ramp one more time until Peter's hairs on his arms stood up on end. Y/n seemed to notice that along with something else, freezing and placing a hand on her boyfriend's arm. "Peter? You felt that too, right?" He nodded, the two looking around shortly until Y/n's nose twitched.
"Menace smells something," He nodded at her, the two talking of a plan shortly while she dropped him off in the surrounding of trees and pulled on his suit. He now knew what was creating the smell as he pressed the spider against his chest and tightened the suit, freezing. Smoke. His heart dropped.
Running to the cabin, the entirety of it was up in flames. There were dozens of students outside that were screaming for others that were still stuck inside or were struggling to get out. "Where's Y/n?!" He yelled out to Ebony, the girl being startled for a second and about to say his name before correcting herself. "She's in the building!"
He cursed, rushing and swinging into the building. Occasionally swinging some people out and sticking them to some trees with webs, he reminded himself and yelled at others to help them get down. Though it wouldn't be an easy task, it allowed him to move faster and let people escape in a quicker manner.
He met Y/n in the same room, the girl being okay because Menace was protecting her enough. Menace wasn't fazed by the burns and the skin was thick enough to cover her actual body, keeping her from the burning surface. "There's two more people upstairs!" Peter nodded quickly, swinging upwards.
Upstairs, the owner of the giant cabin and someone else with her. He wrapped some webs around them and yelled at the two. "Alright, you two have to trust me!" Nodding shakily, they let him do his thing. Approaching the ledge as a piece of the wall from the floor above them crashed down into the snow, the boy yelped and whined.
"Whoa. . . this is pretty high!"
He attached them to his waist, taking in a sharp inhale before swinging and dragging slightly into the snow. The two landed safely, Peter letting them go and going back into the building to look for Y/n. Helping the last person out, the two scoped out the rest of the area and returned safely.
She let out a breath, Menace disappearing before she collapsed into the snow. Although Menace protected her from the flames, the heat of the fire had sunk in and overheated the entirety of her body to the point of dehydration. Everyone rushed towards her, except Peter made sure they kept back a distance.
"Hey! Leave the girl alone! I'll take her to the hospital, back off!" He was incredibly worried, heart racing with panic as he swiftly scooped her up. The next town was a few miles over, but Peter didn't mind swinging for a few miles. He froze midway through the road, the dropping temperatures making his webs crack.
Cursing, he tried again, but he'd ran out of web fluid. Looking around, his eyes caught a street sign as he came up with an idea. Pressing something in his suit, his iron spider suit kicked in while the giant metal legs popped out from his back and carried them much faster than his webs would have. Reaching the hospital, he skidded to a stop as the heater in his suit blared.
"HELP!"
