"LET'S GO OUT," Wren tossed the keys of their sleek black car back and forth in between their hands and cocked a brow at the little nerd. He laid on the bed, staring at the TV before raising his head to glance at the person who stood behind the couch he sat on. Peter had an innocent look on his face, hands on the couch as he blinked at them.
Still being unable to register the request, he squinted his eyes and studied their form shortly. "What?" Wren shrugged, crossing their arms with the same eyebrow still raised. Their stance didn't change, one leg being relied on with most of the weight while the other one was raised just a tiny bit higher.
They laughed, obviously amused. "C'mon, let's go out. Faye and Y/n are at the mall, Viva went to a giant family party or something, and Ebony's too busy gaming." Peter blinked a few more times before turning off the TV and jumping over the couch, grinning. He nodded, smiling. "Yeah, sure. Let's go."
Wren made sure that Peter followed behind them, leading him to their car and hopping into it before shoving the key into the ignition. Conversations casually came up before Peter realized that they'd been driving around the same few blocks for a while as Wren had been looking out of the window with a narrowed look.
"Are you looking for something?"
They nodded, spinning the steering wheel swiftly again and going back to looking out the window. "Yeah, there's this really good donut shop around here. I came by here when I was fifteen, but that was four years ago." Clicking their tongue, Peter watched their reaction for a bit more as the name of the donut shop was on the tip of his tongue.
Snapping his fingers, he smiled as a rush of elation hit him once he was able to recognize the name and was able to figure it out completely. "Sugar N' Spice?" Wren nodded instantly, a grin broadening on their lips as they swerved the car easily and made it into a nearby parking spot while Peter pointed excitedly to a donut shop nearby.
"Yup, that's the one!" Wren clapped, leaving their car whilst Peter followed behind them. They towered over him thanks to their laced up high heeled boots that screamed indie goth and their natural height as well. At least by five inches, Peter would have to look up at them occasionally to successfully keep eye contact throughout their random conversations.
Wren ordered one of the sweet special ones; it had chocolate icing with white chocolate drizzled over it and an additional pile of rainbow sprinkles dotted across it. Peter settled for a regular glazed donut, taking a bite and chewing on it while Wren was determined to cover the cost. Getting up to get a coffee, Wren froze when a prissy girl tossed her iced tea at them.
"If you're going to dress like a girl and look like a boy, make sense. Just choose one, faggot." Peter was genuinely shocked to see something like this. In New York, non-binaries, transgenders, and other people of the LGBT+ community were scattered throughout the streets and homes were riddled with them.
Apparently, hate is as popular as representation. Peter couldn't help, but get aggravated, freezing when Wren calmly shrugged and looked the girl in the eye. Opening their mouth, only logical words left their lips. "Not really my problem. I have something called a washer and dryer. Plus, that was your drink you wasted."
Grabbing the rest of their donut, Wren shrugged and beckoned Peter to follow after them. "Let's go, Peter. There's a Keurig machine back at the place anyways." Waving their hand, the nerd blinked wildly before running after them. Brushing back their short cut and slightly dyed hair, Wren continued to keep up their cool mannerism.
Peter's eyes popped out wide once they sat in the car, throwing up one hand as the other safely held his donut. Wren had already finished theirs, licking the rest of the icing off of their fingers before jamming the keys into the ignition. "How could you do that? How could you do that so calmly?!" He questioned.
They turned their head, looking out the back in order to reverse safely and efficiently. Licking their lips, Wren's eyes narrowed as they nearly hit a curb, but managed to avoid it. "Assholes are everywhere, you just end up getting used to it." They excused, squinting and managing to move onto the main road.
After a few turns and some more stoplights, the two had arrived home with full stomachs and some sugary icing still lingering on the tips of their fingers and underneath their nails. His happiness skyrocketed, however, when he watched Happy lugging Tony's bags as the couple walked into the tower.
As tempted as he was to greet his mentor, he knew that he'd rather spend his time unwinding a bit and unpacking before rolling back into his work. Wren caught his gaze, their eyes following up to Tony with a small smirk lining their slightly chocolate coated lips. "You really look up to him, don't you?" Peter smiled with a confident nod. "Definitely."
Wren bounced on their heels slightly, walking straight into the elevator as a harsh exhale escaped from their lips. "That's good," They nodded, grinning. "Back in California, I didn't have much to look up to, unless my mother counted. She was a good one, just taken from us to early, y'know?" Wren didn't tear up, boldly grinning.
Peter smiled gently, understanding how it was a sensitive topic, but their take on it was completely different. Wren wasn't grieving or wasn't depressed, but rather appreciative of whatever their mother did in her lifetime. Whether it was the chores, making money, or the little things, Wren appreciated all of it.
"How many siblings did you have?" Peter asked, crossing his arms with an innocently raised eyebrow. Wren took a while to count on their fingers, eyebrows furrowed in concentration as they ran through their numerous siblings. "About six, my mom tended to sleep around to cope. Paige and Alex are older, then me, Crystal, Xander, and Peyton after."
He flashed a grin, "I'm sure they're great kids." Wren nodded slightly, the smile never leaving their face. "Oh, they are."
