"I DON'T GET IT," Y/n had her head down, hand pressed against the glass that separated her and her best friend. Her eyebrows furrowed as she tried to figure out what even actually happened, how her best friend came as some horrifying monster. "It's nothing to worry about. We have it under control." Mr. Stark spoke sternly, watching her.

After coming in contact with Midnight, Y/n had desperately called Peter and he quickly arrived, only to call Mr. Stark for help as well. Her eyes narrowed at the man, her scowl stretching across her lips. "Adults always say that, but I don't think they really do, ever. You don't have it under control. You don't even know what it is!" She waved her hands frantically.

Peter watched from afar, sitting on a stool exasperatedly. There was no way he'd get away from May with this one, she would surely pester him about going out again. Sure, she knew. She didn't believe it after Peter excused it for the third time of seeing him with the suit on, it wasn't a 'costume', obviously.

"We've been doing our research, kid. It's an odd mutation. Besides, it's a lot more complex than that. The thing is, it's more reliant towards other living bodies and it's main job is to," He paused, snapping his fingers as he tried to come up with the right word. "Plague whatever it can, really. On the other hand, it isn't powerful enough to take over when it wants. So, he's alright-ish."

"Instead, it's reliant on your friend, there. So, in a sense, he controls Midnight. He just has to learn to bond with it and control it better." He informed, blinking blankly. Usually, Tony wasn't the type to elaborate on things they didn't understand to someone who was considered part of the 'public' population.

He had to make an exception for Y/n though, it was her best friend and according to her vague story about her life that he'd asked for, practically her last remnant of support, care, and love. She let out a shaky breath, her eyes staring at the limp form of Chip. His heart rate was regular, the remnants of the dark blue from just hours ago, missing.

"Thing is, we can't test it just yet. He's knocked out and extracting it might be enough to just kill him, it's attached to him, after all. Only way to do it is to take it and replace it with something else or copy it without extracting it completely." His mind ran, eyes trained on the boy's body as the heart monitor beeped rhythmically.

Y/n's head tilted up, the words spilling out of her mouth before she could even comprehend what she was saying. Her eyes slightly pricked with tears, but she held them back as she kept her look focused on her best friend. "I'll do it. Copy it, extract it, whatever you have to do without him dying at the expense. I'll be the test subject."

Peter's head shot up instantly, curses flying out as he stood up instantly and grabbed her by the shoulders as her e/c eyes met his caramel ones. His expression wasn't one of fondness, it wasn't soft at all compared to the face he usually made around her. "Shit, shit, shit! No, you are not doing that! I-I can't let you."

Shaking her head, she bit back a careless smile as she blinked. "If I don't, who will?" Her eyes averted back to her roommate, the boy breathing slowly while the heart rate monitor kept track of it. The only thing that currently signified that he was even alive was the rise and fall of his chest; not his eyes, his laugh, his smile, his retorts, none of it.

"Charlie's been there for me as long as I can remember. He's been my shoulder to cry on, the absolute best and most annoying package you can ask for. I love him so much, he's one of my closest friends and I can't bear to lose him. You have to let me do this, Peter. I-I'll learn how to control it before he wakes up, and who knows? Maybe we can help you defend Queens, y'know?"

His eyes widened slightly by the minority of a fraction, breath hitching as his true name slipped out of her mouth. The look she gave him was a gentle and sincere one, a whisper sounding from her. "I heard him refer to you as that earlier. Lucky guess, huh?" She smiled, jabbing a thumb backwards at Mr. Stark as she laughed softly.

Tony watched the two, unmoving. It was obvious they were incredibly close, he wasn't really sure about their relationship, but he didn't bother to snoop into that unless it became vital to the process. He knew it wouldn't damage either of them if he were to copy the virus mutation and transfer it to her. It would just be a learning process, if anything.

The only worry was that. How long would it take? How painful would it be? Tony was about to say something else, a bit contemplative on her selflessness and her devotion. With one look, Mr. Stark shut his mouth as he stood, awkwardly gaping like a fish for a slice of a second. "Let me do this. If anything happens, it's my fault, not yours."

He blinked at her, readjusting his position. His eyes were lowered to her smaller form, the girl giving him a gaze of determination and reassurance. Y/n spoke lowly, her eyes downcast after staring at him straight in the eyes for a brief moment. "I know you know what it's like to feel loss, to feel helpless when you lose someone. By God, please don't let me feel that way, too."

Tony offered a glance towards Peter, a dazed look on his face as he watched the girl he loved so much plead for a second chance for her friend, risking the rest of her life as another person with an alter ego. Looking at her, he replied. "I won't let either of you die. However, you do understand you're letting go of your future if you do this. If you choose to take it in as well?"

She nodded, determined. "I'm sure. It might seem reckless and a spur in the moment decision right now, hearing it from someone who's seventeen, but I'm more than willing to. I can't let Chip go through this alone, I don't want him to go through it alone." The Stark sharply inhaled, giving a solemn look to Peter which broke the kid's heart.

"Go get Bruce."
