HER HEART DROPPED, the scene never leaving her mind. Whether she was awake or asleep, the same replay seemed to come back to haunt her. With Faye at her side, the girl tucked under the covers as Ebony was laid on the pile of blankets she had made it in a rushed manner, asleep quietly.
It never left her alone, the time that she had lost the two main reasons she lived for. Y/n regretted it. She hated how she allowed herself to be pushed back, how she let him do that, and how everything seemed to fall apart within the span of a day. She looked out the window, the sky dark and starry and full of the unknown.
Y/n opened it, looking back at Faye and Ebony silently before slipping in between the frames. She climbed up in a swift and quiet manner before seating herself at the top of the circle part of the giant 'A' symbol on the Avengers tower. Her legs hung over the edge, a familiar superhero in spandex landing near her.
He didn't question why she wasn't asleep, knowing full well on how she was. Pulling her knees to her chest, she hid her face in her legs and refused to look up at him, still hating at how well he knew her. Peter leaned down and sat next to her, a soft whisper escaping his lips. "Will talking about it help?" Y/n blinked back tears, looking at the stars. "Not really. I'll try though."
He peeled off his mask, handing it to her. Back when they were dating, she would fiddle with the mask and trace the eyes. Y/n always found it odd and amusing at how they would grow and shrink according to Peter's own facial expressions. She laughed softly, tracing the eyes like she used to. "You never seem to forget anything, do you?"
His response was quiet, but audible as his fingers brushed against the legs of his suit. "You aren't someone I want to forget about." It fell silent, crickets taking over as their small chirps rang out through the night. Y/n broke the pent up tension as she shifted the conversation back to the topic, "He pushed me out of the way."
It played back like a movie. Y/n's mind went over the scene, how Charlie had been slammed into the ground minutes before Wisp had her cornered. Her back was against the ledge of the building, Menace disappearing around her legs due to the constant hits Eden had managed to score there, the virus going away near her abdomen as well. She winced, "Eden. . . "
Instead, Wisp let out a loud shriek of a whistle and shot out an arm aimed for her chest. Attempting to fight back, Y/n was caught off guard when Peter screamed and Charlie knocked her to the side. The tentacle was pierced through him, his blood dropping in front of her feet as she looked up with fearful eyes. "No, no, no. Charlie, Charlie!" She cried out.
Looking up, she slowly realized how Wisp was going away from Eden's pale face and revealed his freckles and dark brown eyes. Staggering up, Y/n stumbled a bit as her eyes met Eden's one last time, Charlie's own arm pierced through his chest. The boy smiled lightly, looking back at Charlie before falling completely as Wisp died within him.
Chip seemed to follow suit, Y/n quickly grabbing him and setting his head on her lap. Tears ran down her cheeks and onto his face, "Charlie? Charlie!" She shook him desperately, his head falling limp as the blood stained her legs and drenched into her jeans, painstakingly painting her skin underneath as well.
Tony laid a hand on her shoulder, softly whispering afterwards. "We have to tell Faye. The robots will be down soon, the others already found the power source." Unbeknownst to her, she snapped back to reality with a shake of her head when Peter had dropped down onto the side of the building and was hanging off of it with one hand attached to a web, the other carrying her.
"What happened?" She quietly asked, the boy slowly letting her down on the windowsill. "You had a panic attack," He answered, his voice muffled by the mask slightly as she looked down and waited for him to swing away again. Waiting for another response, he stayed for a few minutes before backing up, the girl latching onto his wrist swiftly.
"Can I stay at your place?"
Peter groaned, the sunlight streaming in through his window and lighting up a mess in front of his closet; a result of Y/n blindly rummaging for a sweater of his at night when he first arrived with her. She was still asleep, her hands curled up and parallel to her nose as the blanket covered her figure.
The boy, on the other hand, was shirtless and sat up, careful to not bump his head on the top of the top bunk. He shifted the blankets, making sure that they still covered Y/n as he rolled out of bed and stood up. Looking through his phone, he sighed in relief. The University classes were cancelled for two weeks due to street renovations.
Other than that notification from one of his professors, his notifications were also riddled with texts from Mr. Stark about Y/n's whereabouts. He groaned softly, throwing his head back at how stupid he could've been to not even think about Tony being concerned over where Y/n was. Texting back that she'd crashed at his place for the time being, he pulled on a shirt.
Still clad in gray sweatpants and cleaning up the mess in front of his closet, he spun around at the click of his doorknob. Aunt May peeked in, looking around with a small smile. "Hey, Peter." Her jaw fell slack at the sight of Y/n cuddled up under the covers as she quickly gestured to him and pulled him out of his room. "You didn't sleep with her, did you?" Her eyes were wide.
He stammered, his voice jumping an octave. "Wh-What? N-No, of course not! S-She just w-wanted a place to stay, May." The woman stared at him before nodding briefly and sighing, a breath escaping through her nostrils as she blinked at him. "Good. Well, I have to head to work, so make sure to take care of her." Peter nodded, watching her. "Y-Yeah, of course."
