『dread·ed | adj. | regarded with great fear or apprehension』
IT WAS CLEANING DAY, a day that Y/n had been dreading ever since the funeral. It had been a few days since the tragic day and due to the lack of funds and workers to clean up the rubble, there little break from schooling had been extended by another two glorious weeks. Rolling out of bed, Y/n let out a small groan.
Y/n wasn't very sure which would be more haunting, the cleaning of the room or the fact that it was a bright and early Monday morning. Fixing her bed, she trudged over to the bathroom and took a quick shower before moving on to the whole toothbrush routine. Squirting some minty toothpaste on the bristles, she brushed delicately and efficiently.
Refusing to change out of her pajamas, Y/n simply pulled a sweater on top and tied her hair into a messy ponytail before meandering out of her door and into the hallway. Embracing the collection of small particles of dust and oxygen that lingered in the air, she nearly bumped straight into Ebony.
The two shared a few words, skipping down to breakfast. Unfortunately, Thor was hogging the stove with a confused expression and small genuine smile on his face. "I attempted to make the cakes of the pan for everyone!" He held up the pan, grinning which was filled with a sticky black substance that neither of them could identify.
Giving a thumbs up, Ebony secretly switched the pans while Y/n made sure her front was towards Thor. Behind her, Menace's limbs shot out and made a new batch of pancake batter in the bottle before setting it down. Quickly replacing it, Peter stood behind Y/n with crossed arms and an amused smile, raising an eyebrow.
"Pancakes," She mouthed, jabbing her thumb to the thunder God. Peter seemed to get the idea, sending a thumbs up and sitting at the stool. Soon enough, others joined and the growing pancake stack had quickly depleted. Sitting at a little area of their own, Peter swung his legs underneath the table like a child as he stabbed his breakfast food.
Faye was beside him, the others following after next to her. Y/n made sure to take Peter's other side, the two sharing a small look before she sat down. "Was it worse this time?" Shaking her head, she shoved a forkful of pancake into her mouth. Recently, Peter had found out that watching things or going on your phone before bed tends to stall sleep.
Using that method since electronics keep you awake for longer due to you thinking of them, he had the theory of the possibility of altering her dreams with whatever movie she watched with him that night. The plan was nice and involved lots of cuddling and snacks, but recently the nightmares seemed to mix and warp the actual dream just a tad bit.
"It just warped again, but it wasn't that bad this time. I-It was just the time that they fought." She whispered, knowing that if Faye heard it, it would be painful for the little girl. Peter just nodded, poking at his food again that was ridden with sweet maple syrup. Instead, he used the excuse of being too full and earned an insult from Viva before she took his leftover pancakes.
"We can start together?" He offered, staring at Y/n as she agreed and stood up from her chair. Excusing herself like she was taught, not that anyone paid much attention, she followed after Peter up the stairs and into Charlie and Eden's room. The superhero stood behind her, there for the feeling of support. "I'll be here for you every step of the way." He reminded softly.
Nodding again, she took the lead and let the doors open as their censors activated at her presence. The room was how it had always been, the messy blankets tossed to one end of the bed and scrunched up, along with empty water bottles and other remnants of their previous presence there.
Using his webs, most of the trash was stowed away in a little pile near the door. Peter thought of getting a trash bag, but froze and yelled. "Friday, release the roombas!" Tony's frightened shrieking could be heard from the room, giggles leaving Y/n's lips as she smiled at Peter. He merely grinned back, checking out the other areas in the bathroom.
Stashing away some of the pictures too quickly for her to see them, she froze when she saw a small notebook, one of the mini composition notebooks you could get at a store for about a dollar. Her eyebrows scrunched, Chip had always joked about how mice go to school and that was their yearbook, and he never left the house. How could he get this?
He never asked anyone to buy anything for him, and nobody would definitely give it to him as a gift. She opened it slowly, heart dropping at the first word. Peter seemed to notice the absence of her voice or sound of movement, turning his head from where he stood in the bathroom. "Y/n?" He asked quietly, looking at her.
In the notebook, it read:
Y/n, Faye, Ebony, or whoever this gets to, we're incredibly sorry. Now, we can't exactly say this in the notebook. . . it's a bit too hard to say or even write at this point. Just check the security cameras, check the footage, and continuously play it until you hear us. I promise you that this isn't your faults. It never was. It was ours. We love you, so much.
Underneath Chip's bed are some parting gifts to Y/n and Ebony. We'd rather give things to the people that meant the most in our lives and was stuck to us the longest. That and we didn't want to beg Tony for money, haha. Either way, underneath mine (Eden) are some gifts to Y/n and Faye as well.
Please take care of yourselves and don't let this grief linger on for long. We promise you, again, none of it's your faults. We love you and wish the best for you from up above (I hope, Chip thinks he's dropping down a few levels, y'know?) Anyway, in the shelf of the closet, there should be some stuff for Tony and Pepper. Much love, AGAIN. - Eden and Charlie, the idiotic duo.
She could barely comprehend what she just read.
