"What?!" My brain wasn't comprehending what he was saying.
"Honey.... I'm asking you to marry me."
"Yeah, I know... it's just... it's unexpected."
"Well...?" He prodded.
"It's a big decision. Have you thought it through?" I asked.
"Yes, I have and this is the best choice. And before you come up with the excuse that we're too young, keep in mind that I've known you for over 12 years. I know you better than anyone else and the same with you. Now that I've got that off my chest... will you marry me?" He asked, again this time with more enthusiasm.
I took a moment before I answered. "My... reply, should I say is based on my judgement alone and nothing more. To be honest, Jun Gi," I began, hesitantly. I could see the smile on his face slowly beginning to drop. The glimmer of hope becoming faint. I did my best to ignore it. "You," I continued, "have been and I still consider you one of my closest and best friends and to be honest..." I took a brief pause to look at him again. He looked like he had lost all hope. Like he was being rejected for the first time by his first love. "I...kinda... wish you would have let me know sooner how you felt about me." I smiled widely as I raised his head. He had a look of confusion on his face. "Trust me, it would have saved me, actually both of us, from a lot of heartache. But at least now I know how you feel about me." I continued to smile. "And... now finally, I have the chance to show you how I feel. I mean, it's better than being rejected, you know." His face had a brief look of realisation on it. "After all," I placed my arms around his neck, forcing him to look at me. " I have loved you for so long. It only seems right for you to be mine." I bit my lower lip.
He smiled like a cheshire cat. And threw his head back in a fit of giggles. As did I.
"So what? Is that you accepting me then?"
"What do you think?" I grinned, showing me pearly whites.
"I swear to God, I nearly broke down then. You really know how to scare someone to death."
"Well, I did have to make you work for it. I wasn't just going to give a straight and simple yes just because you've known me for more than 12 years."
"Can I just say that I honestly... absolutely... love you?" He leaned in and kissed me, placing the ring on my ring finger. It fit perfectly.
"I wouldn't have it any other way. You better remember that I could have rejected you easily then but I didn't. I had to consider how pitiful you looked. Besides I felt sorry for you." I winked at him. He looked astounded.
"Hang on(!) You... you felt sorry for me?! That's why you agreed? Nah uh! I'm not having it. Not having it. Give me back the ring. Maybe Min'll appreciate it more."
My jaw dropped in amazement. He stalked towards me, hand out waiting to receive the ring back. I edged backwards towards the entrance of the garden. "Alright that how you want to play it? Fine. First one back to my apartment wins."
"That's easy... you know I'll win. I took PE as a GCSE." He replied, smugly.
"Ok, how about we make it a little more interesting?" I proposed. "Catch me before I get to the apartment and I'll give it to you. Fail, and it's mine forever." I challenged.
"You're on!" He shouted, with excitement. I shrieked and began to run. He followed me closely. I ran with as fast as my legs would take me. I turned my head slightly to look in the windows of the building to see where he was. He was quite a long way away from me. I ducked into the hotel and pressed the button for the lift. I saw him, come in to the hotel out of the corner of my eye. Oh shoot! I ran towards to door to the stairs and hid behind it. If I know him, which I do, he'll use the lift to catch me. He'll know that I'll try to get back to my apartment as soon as possible.
I saw him getting into the lift. Perfect. Now's my chance. I pressed the button to call the lift and hid behind the potted plants. The doors opened. I could guess Jun Gi face was one of confusion. The door closed. I repeated my movements again. The third time I did it pressed random levels on the lift before I ran out and headed towards the stairs. I didn't give Jun Gi time to catch me.
Well, someone's going to be very angry by the time they get to my apartment. I chuckled and took my own sweet time to climb the stairs. I hated climbing up stairs. I managed to climb the several flights of stairs. Phew! I walked down the corridor towards my apartment. As soon as I was half way down, I heard the ding of the lift. I turned back to look and saw a seething Jun Gi. I couldn't help but laugh. He started to march towards me. I turned on my heels and ran towards my apartment door. He began to run, following my movements. I knocked on one of my neighbour's door. It was an elderly woman that lived there. She just so happened to open the door as Jun Gi passed. I could see Jun Gi getting told off. His head was down and his hands were at the side of his torso. I began to laugh. My eyes were crying tears of joy. I showed him my tongue and began to skip towards my apartment.
I heard a door close further down. I was only a few steps away from my door. I ran to it and started knocking on it frantically. Taekwoon opened the door and I ran in closing it behind me. I flew into my room without saying anything and held door closed with all my body weight.
I heard a door close outside.
"Where is she?" Jun Gi roared. I guess someone gave me up because not a moment later, he came thumping at my door.
"Open the door, Honey. I know you're in there. Min told me." Oh, of course Min'd tell you. She's just made a space for herself on my hit list. I'm so getting her back for this.
I opened the door, cautiously. I hid behind the door as he entered my room. He slammed it shut.
"What was that?!" He asked, face burning with rage, teeth grinning, chest rising up and down rapidly due to the heavy breaths he was taking.
"In all fairness, I didn't want to give the ring back." I smiled with uncertainty.
He sighed. I smiled. Life was definitely going to be interesting with him.
