"Toothless! Toothless! Wake up!"
Toothless knew someone was calling but he honestly couldn't be bothered to get up. His bed felt incredibly warm and comfortable that day, and something was rocking him to sleep gently.
"Toothless! Oi!"
He huffed in annoyance.
"LIZARD!" a shrill voice shrieked.
The Night Fury jumped two feet in the air in surprise, even more shocked that he wasn't at home and that he'd sent waves crashing all around him. His face was drenched and he swore that water went up his nostril.
He looked around wildly and saw Sirena laughing so hard that she was doubled over and clutching her stomach.
"Was that you?!" he asked.
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
He frowned and used his wing to send water rumbling towards her.
"Hey! I sing you to sleep and this is the payment I get?" she whined and parted her now drenched hair with her fingers.
He made a mocking sound to tease her, only to feel her shove his snout away.
"I'm sorry. I forgot what happened. I sort of just, passed out."
"I know... You were so tired," she said sympathetically and ran a hand along the structure of his face.
"What happened before and after I fell asleep?"
"Nothing much," she said with a sidewards grin, "I just worked on the kelp and armour which I did just complete!"
"Wait-- Really?!"
"Yeah, really! Take a look!"
He dragged himself onto dry land, skin feeling all sorts of heavy and weird from laying so long in water. He'd carelessly forgotten to remove the auto fin. He just hoped it wouldn't rust over time. Sirena hauled herself so she was now partially on dry land.
"Look, see!"
He sniffed the armour and inspected it. The hole had been completely patched up with the woven sheet of kelp. However, he was sure it wouldn't hold water for very long.
"W-wow, you did a pretty good job, Sirena."
"It won't hold water for long, and you know that."
"That's not a problem. We'll just scoop up more water from the oceans every once in awhile."
She nodded happily but backtracked as she suddenly felt awfully ill.
Sirena felt strange, like there was something bubbling deep inside her. It made her feel light-headed and nauseous but at the same time, it made her feel alive.
"H-hey... You look a little pale."
"I think I'm just getting dry, is all," she murmured and sure enough, part of her skin was starting to flake, and the exposed part of her tail was growing dull and dry.
"Here, let me help you back to the waters," he offered worriedly, "Hold onto my leg. I'll drag you back."
Toothless felt her cold hands holding onto him weakly as she clung on for dear life. As he trudged against the waves into the deeper ends, she let go and allowed the waters to welcome her home. She shivered at the pleasant feeling.
"Wait here," he purred gently.
While he left, the mermaid scooped up water in her joined palms and splashed it over her face. Her hair flowed in the wind, the exact same way her fins flowed in the water. Her tail seemed brighter than usual, which Toothless had realised earlier. She wrapped her arms around herself instinctively.
