Chapter 65

Shawn's acoustic performance on the B stage ended and he was soon back in front of me closing the show.

He'd told me what his setlist was for this tour, so I was a bit surprised when he didn't exit the stage after what was supposed to be his last song. His band members walked off and came around to the pit where we were all standing. A stage hand brought Shawn a stool and his favorite acoustic guitar. He adjusted the mic, took a seat, and looked over at me and smiled before facing the audience.

"Right before I came on stage tonight, I decided to do something I haven't done at any of the other shows," he said, looking out at the crowd.

Everyone started applauding and screaming, knowing this was going to be something special. My heart was pounding in my chest and I couldn't take my eyes off Shawn.

"This was one of the first songs I wrote for Lately, but it didn't make it on the album. It's a very personal song for me, and it's not easy for me to sing, but I need to tonight. I haven't rehearsed performing it live, so forgive me if it's not perfect," he said as he started to strum his guitar.

I knew what he was going to sing before he started. It was my song.
