Devin Above

Kade POV

"Why did you run away from me?" Me and Devin are on the roof. I pull out a cigarette and light it, "I'm guessing your dad didn't let you know the deal is off. He didn't want to get his precious son involve." I take a long drag and blow it out.

"Why did you come here?" He laughs at my question, "My parents split up and I chose to live with my dad. It's a coincidence that we're at the same school." I look at him and he tilts his head to the side, "Who are the people you're working with now?" He shakes his head and laughs, "That's for me to know and for you to find out until you're 21."

I clench my teeth, "No need for you to worry. I'm not a bad person." I push myself off the wall, "You know I don't trust you, right?" He crosses his arms and sighs, "Why? Is it because I made a scary joke when we first met? Or is it because of the history of my father?" I run my fingers through my hair as I blow out some smoke, "You know the saying follow your gut? Well, my gut is telling me that you're not someone I can easily trust." I see a glint in his eyes, "But you don't always have to listen to your gut. Sometimes your gut can be wrong."

I walk to the door, "Just don't cross the line." I take one last drag from my cigarette and throw it off the roof, "Is that a threat I'm hearing?" He teases, I blow out some smoke and leave the roof, "Take it however you want." I close the door behind me and walk to class. This is really irritating, I can't do what I really want until I'm fucking 21. I have to wait to be 21 for everything and it's so frustrating.

I walk in class and everybody looks my way, "Is there a reason why you're late?" I look at my teacher whose name I don't know or care to remember. "I was showing one of the new students around. He should be coming now." I point to the door and Devin walks in with an annoying smile on his face.

I walk to my desk and as I'm walking I see Jasmine staring at me. She looks away the second our eyes meet. Once I get to my desk I put my head down and close my eyes for the entire 90 minutes.

I feel someone shake me out of my sleep, "C-Class is over." I look up and see Leslie looking at me with a red face. I sit up and stretch, she walks away and I follow her out the class, "A-Are you okay?" I look at her and she flinches, "Y-You seem to be on edge. I-I was just wondering." Why the hell is she so nervous around me? I did nothing to her, "Nothing." I walk to the cafeteria and go to my table in the corner, "What took you so long to get here?"

Karson asks with his mouth full, "I fell asleep in class." He rolls his eyes, "You're such an old man. Why are you always sleeping?" I shrug my shoulders in reply, "I like to sleep. Sleep is a sport to me." He looks at me with a weird look and laughs, "Was that your way of being funny? I can't even say anything because sleeping is really what you only do."

I see Jasmine walk in the cafeteria and our eyes meet. She smiles and runs over towards me.

She sits beside me and wraps her arms around my waist, "He's not the only one here. You can speak to me." Jasmine rolls her eyes at Karson, "Hey Karson, hows life going for you?" Karson smiles and puts a fry in his mouth, "It's going great, except you're not helping me get the girl which is your best friend."

Jasmine laughs, "Well you're not helping me get closer to Kade." He drops his head and groans, "You're asking for the impossible. How about I give you tips on how to get closer. Kade is like a wall we can never past."

Karson hands me the rest of his fries and I take them, "Fine, I can work with tips." I take a fry and throw it at Karson, "Why are talking as if I'm not here?" He shrugs his shoulders and laughs, "You didn't hear anything." I roll my eyes, "Who did you just leave from?"
