Chapter 11: Bad News

SAMANTHA'S P.O.V

"BOOM!"

I slowly open my eyes to see grey. Grey clouds. Thunder. Where am I?

I look around to see Ethan laying next to me on the same mattress. He looks so cute! Then I remember what happened last night. Oh, we must've fallen asleep on the mattress.

I grab my phone and check the time. It's 8:35! We're going to miss the bus to school!

Me: "Ethan, Ethan wake up!"

Ethan: "Mmhmm."

Me: "Now! We're going to be late!"

He finally sat up looking completely wrecked.

Ethan: "Eugh, we must've fallen asleep out here. I can't even remember closing my eyes."

Me: "It's ok, let's just get ready for school."

As we were jumping off the mattress, rain started pouring down on us. We quickly ran inside.

Nicole: "Ethan, Samantha? Where are you two?"

Ethan: "We're coming mum!"

We walked down to the bottom floor to see a batch of freshly made pancakes with Nutella and berries as a topping. Yum!

Me: "This looks great, thanks Nicole!"

Nicole: "No worries, now how about I give you two a ride considering you won't make it to the bus on time?"

Ethan: "That'd be great, thanks mumma bear!" He says in a baby tone.

We all laugh together.

It's 8:50 and I'm in the bathroom getting changed, whilst Ethan is getting changed in his room. By this time the bus would be at the bus stop getting ready to leave.

At about 8:55 we're both finally ready.

We head into the 4 car garage and get into a black car.

The whole time in the car me and Ethan were playing some old kid games for our entertainment. It was actually pretty fun!

We got to school at 9:10. School starts at 9:00 so we were late.

By the time we got school the rain had stopped. Ethan and I waved goodbye to Nicole and start walking towards our lockers. First period was Art.

Art was pretty fun! We had to go into partners and paint each other. I have to admit, I was pretty proud of my masterpiece of Ethan!

After another class came recess.

I was sitting with my normal group of friends, when Amelia and Sophia came up to me.

Sophia: "Hey Samantha, we haven't s-poken in a while." She said nervously.

Amelia: "We've got some news for you. Some news that you might wish you never heard."

My stomach started turning.

Sophia: "Um Samantha sorry to break it to you, but...

ETHAN'A P.O.V

I was chatting away with my friends, when I saw Samantha's good school friends Amelia and Sophia pull her aside. I was staring out Samantha's face to get clues on what they were telling her, and from a bright smiley face came a sad terrified face.

SAMANTHA'S P.O.V

Sophia: "Um Samantha sorry to break it to you, but Amelia and I are leaving the state."

Me: "W-what?!"

Amelia: "Yeah, well you know how our dad's work together, they got promotions and we have to move to Queensland. We're leaving tonight."

My life long friends are leaving me. After all the special memories we've shared, they're just going to leave like a feather flying away in the wind. It's all happening so fast. So basically, both Amelia and Sophia are staring at me, from the corner of my eye I can see my whole group of friends all have their eyes on me, and I'm trying to hold back the tears.

Sasha: "Hey Samantha, could you come to the bathroom with me please?"

I slightly nodded and walked over to her. She grabbed my arm and we started walking to the bathroom.

Sasha: "What happened girl?"

Me: "Ss-soph-ia and Am-me-lia, they-y are going t-to Queens-sland." I said while bursting into tears.

Sasha: "You mean like for good? When are they leaving?"

Me: "Their f-flight is tonight."

Sasha: "It'll all be fine, I promise. Besides, you still have other friends! Oh also, you've got me!"

It made me cheer up a little to know that I had good support.

As soon as we got to the bathroom, Sasha grabbed some spare tissues out of her pocket and wiped away my tears. She pulled me into a big warm hug.

After I freshened up in the bathroom, we walked back to the table where all my friends were sitting. I told Ethan calmly what happened.

Ethan: "Don't worry Sam. It'll all be ok." He said while giving me a soothing smile.

Hey, he called me Sam!

By the end of recess, everyone knew about Amelia and Sophia leaving the state.

The bell went off, so everyone rushed to their lockers.

I was at my locker taking out my books when I felt someone nudge my arm.

Tyler: "Samantha, I just wanted to let you know that you don't need to be upset or anything. I mean, you have us to talk to." He said supportively.

Dylan: "Yep, I'm sure you'll get over it pretty soon!"

Zac: "I mean, we are like the experts at distracting people from their problems." Zac said all professionally.

We all laughed. I felt so much better after everyone gave me a little support. I didn't realise what great friends I had.

Adriana: "Sam, you'll get through this easily!"

Tanisha: "Hey Everyone, how about the beach tomorrow!?"

Adriana: "Sounds great."

Zac: "Yeah sure."

Ethan: "I'll be there."

Sasha: "You bet!"

Me: "Uh yeah sounds good."

Dylan: "Bring some extra money to buy me a drink!"

Tanisha: "Be there at 11!"

The rest of the day was actually quite a lot of fun! I was trying to spend as much time as I could with Amelia and Sophia. We had a good laugh! It was definitely a day to remember.

After a few more classes, came the end of the first week of school. Phew, glad that's over!

I was grabbing my bag from my locker when Ethan walked up to me.

Ethan: "Sam, do you want to go get some ice cream?"

Me: "Haha sure, now?"

Ethan: "Yeah, it's basically on our way home anyway."

Me: "It's a date!" I said as a joke.
