A sunny day in New York City was the perfect backdrop for a beach outing with friends. Gabby, his girlfriend Bella, Veronica, and I soaked up the sun, watching people swim and enjoy the waves. After a while, we strolled over to a beachside bar to grab some drinks. As Veronica chatted away, I found myself tuning out, her conversation feeling forced and uninteresting. I bit back the urge to interrupt, instead opting to check my phone, grateful for the distraction from her nonstop talk.
"Sultan, you good?" Gabby asked, and I looked up at him.
"I'm okay, but can you tell Veronica to give me a break?" I said, my tone laced with frustration. Gabby cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable, knowing Veronica's conversation was grating on me.
"Sultan, come on, I'm just trying to chat so you don't get bored," Veronica said, her voice chipper. I rubbed my face, feeling a mix of annoyance and amusement.
"Well, you're definitely making me bored," I replied, trying to keep my tone light.
"I get it," she said, rolling her eyes before setting her juice on the table. I chuckled, my amusement short-lived as my gaze landed on Milani. I was stunned, my eyes locking onto hers as if magnetized. Pregnancy suited her perfectly – her glow was radiant. In that moment, I finally understood what Gabby had been trying to tell me all along.
"I get it." She rolled her eyes before sitting her juice on the table, then I chuckled and looked only for my eyes to land of Milani. I was stunned, shocked and mesmerized as I couldn't take my eyes off her. Pregnancy looked good on her, she was glowing, I finally got what Gabby was trying to tell me all these while.
Milani had a strange hold on me, and it was driving me crazy. Even after we'd parted ways, I couldn't shake her off my mind. Every day, I'd find myself wondering why she was still on my brain. The memory of our chance encounter at the hospital months ago lingered, and the fact that she hadn't reached out since only added to my curiosity. I assumed the guy she'd been with was her boyfriend, which made her elusive presence in my thoughts even more puzzling.
