sadly, the married couple's relationship arrived to a downfall as the years flew by, and nicolas grew to become more absorbed with his work. after an argument between him and his wife in 2034, the two split up and went their separate ways; clara took their daughters under her custody, while nicolas took their son under his custody. clara moved to new york to live next to her brother leo, while nicolas travelled back to mexico with miguel and agreed to marry his childhood friend, fiorella lopez, a haughty & spiteful rich woman, to fulfill his mother's desires.
however, things didn't work out for him and fiorella, so they eventually broke off their engagement. after a year, nicolas returned to america and resided in florida with his son. occasionally, he and clara still visit one another, but only so she could see miguel, and he could see coco & clarissa. unfortunately for nicolas, his daughters grew to resent him on their mother's behalf.
