PERSONALITY — Great ambitiousness and perfect charisma are Eduard's two most prominent traits, both of which he inherited from his parents. He's the type of person who willingly does whatever it takes to reach his ambitions and maintain a high status in society. He always feels the need to prove himself in front of everyone, especially since he's the bastard child of a poor gypsy woman (gypsies usually suffer from discrimination in France). Eduard is seemingly charming at first, however, as one gets to know him better, they'll eventually learn that he's full of haughtiness and arrogance. He's incredibly prejudiced against the lower-class, including the Romani people, his mother's own kind. Nevertheless, he has enough dignity to keep his thoughts to himself, and only voices his disdainful opinions to certain people. Still, he tends to avoid any form of contact with those of "inferior status". Fortunately, he gradually becomes more sagacious and open-minded as he ages. By the time he was in his 30s, he alas learned to embrace his Romani heritage and treat other people in a more respectable manner. He's evidently intelligent as well, though arguably not as cunning as Marion.
