"It wasn't your fault Hiccup, your father didn't tell you his intentions." Merida bursted out defensively.
"I know but what I did back there.....my father was right I lead them to their downfall. By my actions my father didn't have any other way but to order them to take down our dragons in order to protect the people. I was put in the basement until I got a notice that my parents had been.....killed in the war....with the death of my parents it was only logical that they had to keep me safe for the future of DunBroch, the only heir to the throne. I was taken to a small village were I hid until the war was over that lasted about a year but in that one year hatred started to consume me to one thing in particular......dragons. I started blaming them for everything they had taken that night for the bloodshed of my parents, friends and my people. One day I got a letter telling me that preparations were being made for the return of the prince and that Drago had taken his soul inside a bear before being executed. I had to leave the small village to take my place in the throne. I did as I was told, I took my fathers place and my first order as King was to............kill every single dragon in the land. To get rid of my guilt and pain I vowed to restore what my family had lost. I started war with other kingdoms, I conquered lands, betrayed our allies, blood ran in my hands in many ways. In the matter of time all I could think about was my thirst for power and revenge. I had become self absorbed, arrogant, and proud. Everything I had accomplished got to my head that I started seeing low people as....trash. One stormy night when I was holding a celebration of one of my accomplishments an old ragged woman came uninvited and asked me if she could take refuge from the storm and all I did was laugh at her and started humiliating her in front of my guests. I started calling out her physical features, her worn out clothes and called her horrible things." Hiccup fell silent, remembering that day in his mind.
(Flashback):
"Scram you worthless piece of trash!" The old lady reached to touch the young king trying to offer him a rose in return for shelter. Only to have him give her a push in which she stumbled and fell backwards. Everyone started to laugh at her in how she was being mocked. She decided that he was given many chances and that was his last, seeing that love didn't reside in him any longer."Hiccup Haddock The Third." The old wrinkled woman's voice had suddenly disappeared being replaced by a very sweet angelic voice. Hiccup's eyes grew wide as he saw the old ugly woman turn into a very beautiful human girl.
"You were given many opportunities to give up your disgraceful actions but you took none and now as the enchantress of this land you will suffer for the things you had made wrong, and for the countless innocent lives you have taken, for the betrayal of people who you trusted you. Hiccup, I can see you have forgotten how to love and that love no longer speaks to your soul. If your parents were here they would be very disappointed in you. For this I here put you into a curse, you will turn into the one thing you hate most. This enchanted rose I have given you will bloom on your twenty first birthday if you could learn to love another and earn her love in return by the last petal, then the spell will be broken. If not, you will be doomed to remain a beast for all time."
(End of Flashback)
"Hiccup! Hiccup!" Merida called out his name multiple times after he had fallen silent half way through his story.
"What?" Hiccup came out of his trance and looked at Merida confusedly.
"What happened next with the old lady?"
"I-she put a curse on me, beast by day and human at night. She cursed me with the thing I learned to hate most...."
"Dragons..." Merida finished quietly, Hiccup only nodded in response.
"How come people don't remember all this, the war, the kingdom going to ruins, all the people know is that the kingdom fell into nations long ago."
