This summer, I got a job at the pool as a lifeguard, much to the dislike of my best friend, Everett. He made the point that we wouldn't get to spend much time together, and I agreed but added the point that my parents thought it would be a good 'experience' for me, and besides, I only work Monday through Wednesday. He had lightened up after I mentioned that. But, even though we spend a lot of the days I don't work together, he comes to the pool a lot and swims, talking to me when I'm on break, which is 15 minutes every hour. I get paid $8.00 an hour, working from 8-5, meaning I make about $64.00 per day and $192.00 per week, for eight weeks, which isn't bad at all for a high school kid. Meaning, if I saved all the money I make over the eight weeks that I work, I've made about $1536.00 this summer.

Today is a particularly hot day and Ev comes in almost as soon as we open, at 8:03 am. It kind of feels like he's been clingy, but I honestly don't mind; I love him. Often, even when I'm not on my break, he stays close to my lifeguard chair. This morning is no different, he comes and stands by the chair, watching me.
"What?" I ask him, laughing lightly.
"Nothing," he says.

12:00 PM comes soon, and I take my 15-minute lunch break, letting the other lifeguard know. There are two lifeguards at the pool so that when one is one break, or if the other one is working too, there's an extra life-saver. I jump down from the chair and find Everett.
"I'm on break," I say, coming up beside him.
He turns to me and smiles.
"We can go to my truck, I still have the canopy on there from when we went camping on Friday," I tell him. (If you haven't heard of them/seen them, there are canopies/tents that you can put on the bed of a truck and go camping or whatever with it!)
"Sounds good," Everett says.
We walk out of the gate to my truck, passing a group of girls that stare me down as we pass. Everett looks at them with a look that I can't fully see. I let him climb in before me, and then climb in after him, getting our lunches out of my cooler. I have blankets spread out over the bed of the truck as well, so we don't burn ourselves on the hot truck bed. We eat our lunch and then head back to the pool.
"I'm going back on duty, okay?" I tell Everett. "I'll see you in a little bit."
Everett nods, staring back at the same group of girls that are staring at me again.

At 1:45, I take my next break, finding Everett, who's in the pool now to tell him that I'm on my break once more. He gets out of the pool, following me around the pool.
"Hey, can--can we talk for a minute?" he asks me, stopping in front of me, looking me in the eyes.
"Yeah...is everything okay?" I ask him.
"Yeah, everything's okay! Come on,"
I follow him out of the gate to and to an empty building that we often use for team meetings. There's no one in there and the curtains are pulled on the windows. It's also 'air-conditioned' in here (there are ceiling fans). Everett closes the door behind us and locks it as I walk towards the back left corner.
"So...what's up?" I ask him once he's turned back around and walking towards me.
He doesn't respond until he gets about a few inches away from me. "This," he says softly, putting his hand on the back of my neck and pulling me into him, pressing his lips against mine. I close my eyes almost instantly, not hesitating, and pull him closer to me, kissing him back, deepening the kiss. He moves his hand from my neck and wraps his arms around me, resting them on my shoulders; I put mine on his waist, just above the waistband of his swimming trunks. He tries to break the kiss, but I pull him back into me, not wanting to let go just yet. I move my hands from his waist to his face, cupping his face as I pull back from the kiss. He looks at me, a smile spreading across his face.
"That explains the look you gave those girls," I say with a laugh.
He blushes.
"Hey, it's okay," I tell him, holding his chin and kissing his lips again. I look at my watch, finding I only have five minutes of my break left.
"We should go back," I tell him.
He groans. "I don't want too..." he whines.
"I know, but I'm all yours tonight, and I don't work tomorrow,"
He smiles at this and kisses me again.

We walk back through the gates together and I stand by the lifeguarding chair, once again finding the group of girls looking at me. That's the thing about being a lifeguard, you find that a lot of girls--and boys, for that matter, stare at you. Everett, of course, notices this and turns to me, and wraps his arms around me.

I skip my two o'clock break and take my next break at 3:00. Everett is waiting for me at the bottom of the chair, pulling me out of the gate as soon as I've made it down from the chair. He pulls me to the building again and shoves me (not hard) against the wall, slamming his lips against mine. I laugh quietly against his lips, smiling against them before I put my hand on the back of his neck. He bends backward a little, pulling me with him, and stumbling back a little bit. His lips are soft and have a faint taste of chlorine from the pool, but I don't care. He pulls away to breathe, looking at me intensely.
"Little jealous, are you?" I ask him jokingly.
He blushes red again.
"It's okay, it's cute," I tell him, kissing him again.

Everett and I walk back in the gate together, with five minutes of my break left. The same group of girls stares at me, but this time, they get up, one girl in a yellow bikini leading the rest of them.
"Hey," she says when she reaches me. I can practically feel the jealousy coming off of Ev. "I was thinking...I know you've seen me staring at you all day..."
"I have," I admit, nodding my head and smiling awkwardly.
"Well, I'm just going to say it right out, I think you're cute, and I think we would look cute together. I think you should take me out sometime,"
This sends Ev over the edge. He looks from the group of girls and then to me. I have no clue what he's going to, but I know he's going to do something.
"I'm sorry," Ev says sweetly. "But he's taken,"
The girl raises her eyebrow. "By who? I don't see him kissing anyone."
Everett snorts at her with a laugh and turns to me.
"You should get back to work," he says softly, pressing his lips to the back of my bare shoulder. "I'll see you tonight," he adds with a wink. "I mean, I'll see you on your next break, but especially tonight."
"Alright, bye Ev," I say, kissing his cheek and climbing back up the chair and taking my perch again.

4:00 rolls around and I take my break again, finding Everett waiting on me at the bottom of the chair. We walk out of the gate together, but not before he kisses me before he opens the gate. We walk back to the building because apparently that's becoming our spot.
"The nerve of that girl!" Ev says as soon as the door is shut behind us. "I mean, I was literally all over you before when we left the gate fifteen minutes earlier. I know she saw us, she was staring you down. Ugh, the nerve of--mmph--"
I cut him off by pressing my lips against his, causing his 'mmph', and putting my hands on his waist.
"You don't have anything to worry about," I tell him when I pull away. "I don't like her, I like you," He stares at me.
"Just remember, tonight," I say softly, pressing my lips to his softly, then moving down his neck and his collarbone with my lips. He lets out a small, quiet, and short moan when I kiss his neck as I'm moving back up it. When I finish with his neck, he has a hickey, and I'm kissing his lips again. He pulls me against him, pushing himself against the wall. I cup his face as I pull away slowly, opening my eyes to look at him.

5:00 finally comes, and I climb down from the chair, finding Ev patiently waiting at the bottom.
"Did your mom drop you off today?" I ask him.
He nods. "We could go to my house," he suggests. "She dropped me off because she and Dad are going out of town for a wedding so my sisters are with grandma and grandpa..."
"I'll have to stop by my house and get clothes, though,"

We stopped by my house, got clothes, said hi to my mom, Ev pulling his shirt up higher than it needed to be to cover his hickey, and then stopped to get food to take back to his house. We got Chinese and ate it in his living room. After we finished eating, we cleaned up the mess and headed up the stairs to his bedroom. He closes the door behind us and turns around to look at me, falling on the bed and crawling towards me.
"What are you doing?" I ask with a laugh as he starts slithering up the bed. "You look like a snake,"
He starts slithering faster, reaching me and kissing my lips softly. I pull him on my lap and put my hands on his waist.

Everett lays beside me, his head on my bare chest. I look down at him and kiss his forehead.
"I love you," I tell him.
He looks up at me. "I love you too, Ry," he replies, leaning up and kissing my lips softly.
