Okay, sure maybe I shouldn't really be doing this right now, but I promised Matt that I'd go to his house for dinner. It wasn't just some dinner though, both of his families were going to be there. Yeah, his parents are divorced, too.

Wearing sweat pants and a tank top, I walked downstairs after previously throwing a backpack full of nicer clothes outside my window.

"Where do you think you're going?" My dad asked as I walked down the stairs.

"You know that big project we have to do in English?" I questioned.

"Yes, what about it?"

"Well the rest of the class was acting up and our teacher moved up our deadline. I need to go to Alex's," I said.

"Okay you can go, be home by curfew, don't forget you're grounded," he reminded.

Okay I'm out.

After changing in my car, I've pretty much mastered that skill, I fixed my hair and makeup and finished making my way to Matt's. We had that kind of relationship where I didn't have to knock, I just walked right in, and I knew where they hid their spare key. It was taped to the inside of the handle on the door.

"Lauren!" His five year old half-sister, Sierra, exclaimed running up towards me.

"Hi Sierra! I haven't seen you in a long time!" I exclaimed hugging her.

"I like your dress," she said smiling.

"Well I love your tutu," I replied making her laugh. "Do you think they have it in my size?"

"I don't think so," she said rolling her eyes. Well she definitely got sassier since the last time I was here.

"Hey," Matt said walking over to us.

"Hey," I said grinning.

"I didn't think you'd come," he said.

"Well I'm technically supposed to be at Alex's right now, but uh you know," I said laughing. "Just had to use the English report as an excuse, even though I finished it two weeks ago."

"Why didn't you just say you were coming here?"

"Yeah, kind of grounded," I responded.

"Oh shit, that's because of me huh?"

"Yeah, just a little."

"Hey Lauren," Aiden and Dallas said walking by. Aiden is 18 and is Matt's step brother. Dallas is 15 and is his step sister.

Matt's dad's name is Evan and he married Ariel who already had a daughter, Aubrey, who is 16. She doesn't go to our school though, she's musically gifted. So she's on a scholarship at Huntington School of the Arts to play the piano. Then there's Sierra, Evan and Ariel's daughter, probably the cutest little girl in the world, well besides me, and Ellie...

His mom is named Nicole and she married Ryan Trafford who had two kids from a previous marriage, Aiden and Dallas. Their mom died when they were eight and six, they don't really talk about it that much.

Matt and I played Candy Land with the kids, well one kid, and four teenagers. I was in the lead, Sierra right behind me. And trust me, I wasn't letting her win, she's a master at this game. Probably because that's the only board game she'll play.

"So uh, what's going on between you two?" Aiden asked? He's a senior at Ocean View, a basketball and soccer player.

"Same as always," Matt answered with a smug look.

"Yeah sure," Aubrey said rolling her eyes.

"Okay guys, dinner's ready," Matt's dad called from the kitchen.

"Thank you for having me," I said to the hosts. To be honest, I didn't really know who to thank. This was his dad's house, so I should be thanking him?

"Of course Lauren, you're always welcome here," Ariel replied. "You're basically family."

Oh wait, maybe I'm thanking Ariel.

"So how's piano, Aubrey?" Nicole asked her.

I wouldn't say there was tension, but it was really awkward. They don't have a big family dinner like this normally, so something must be up.

"It's good," Aubrey replied with a small smile.

"How's school?" Evan asked Aiden and Dallas.

"It's good, I'm uh dating this one girl, she's a junior," Aiden said.

"Really? Who?" I questioned.

"Don't you know? It's Alex," he said in an obvious tone.

Um, excuse me? Alex is dating Scott. I think I would know, she is my best friend after all. "I thought she was dating Scott."

"Scott's dating Gina," Matt informed me.

"Oh." Well I definitely feel out of the loop. Why would Alex lie to me?

.

.

And another make out session, except this time it's in his room and there was no overprotective father.

"Matt?" I asked breaking out of the kiss.

"Yeah?" He questioned confused.

"Can we just talk for now? I have 15 more minutes until I have to leave," I replied.

"Yeah sure," he agreed.

"Can we play Do You Really Know Me?" I asked.

"Yeah."
