"I heard a rumor at school," Clarissa said from my doorway.
"About?" I questioned.
"That Matt asked you out, didn't think it was true," she responded.
"Well it is," I said smoothing out my jeans. I was wearing a beige colored cut-out strap linen tank from Calypso St. Barth, medium blue colored skinny jeans from Mother Sea of Secrets, nude snake platform ankle boots from NEWLOOK that were on sale for $16, and finally had a beige purse from Fendi, which was really expensive and I had to pay some of the money back to my dad. He freaked when he saw the credit card bill.
"You look pretty," Clarissa said with a smile as she hugged me from behind.
"Love you Rissa," I said hugging her back. "I'm gonna go downstairs."
It was 7:10, ten minutes past the time Matt was supposed to pick me up. I hadn't gotten a text or call from him so I decided I might as well watch TV. Law & Order: SVU was on, one of my favorite re-run shows, even though there's new episodes. I put it on and lied down on the couch and I guess I fell asleep because Clarissa was shaking me to wake me up.
"How was the date?" She questioned.
"Never came," I said realizing I had fallen asleep.
"Oh."
"What time is it?" I asked with a yawn emerging.
"Two," Clarissa answered and I scoffed and walked up to my room.
.
.
I heard a slight ring of the doorbell downstairs and figured I was the only one home since my dad goes to the office Saturday mornings and Ellie always has a playdate, so Marissa goes to the spa to get her nails done, and then Clarissa hangs out with Evan at the mall or his house.
Walking down the stairs, the person behind the door kept ringing the bell and I was starting to get agitated so I yelled at them to shut up, with a few explicit words here and there.
I opened the door and sure enough, Matt was standing there.
"Please let me explain," he started but I slammed the door in his face. Jerk. "Lauren!"
"Go away!" I yelled.
"I'm not leaving, I hope you know that!" He said loud enough so I could hear him.
"Whatever," I scoffed.
I walked back upstairs and put on music so I could just ignore him and relax. Believe it or not, classical music doesn't calm me down, EDM music does, and if you have no idea what EDM is, we are not friends.
I didn't move from my spot until my dad came and got me for dinner.
"So um, why is Matt outside our front door?" Miranda questioned me.
Before I could answer, Clarissa did, "He stood her up last night."
"Oh, well why don't we invite him in for dinner? He must be starving," Miranda commented.
"No!" I protested.
"This is insane," my dad muttered then walked over to the front door and invited Matt in for dinner. That got him a well-deserved glare on the way back.
"Hello Matt," Clarissa said with a piercing tone.
"Hi," he replied awkwardly.
"Ah, it's been a while since we've had you over for dinner Matt," my dad said patting him on the back. Okay dad, the other day you were pissed at him because he spent he night and then you grounded me. Now you're all buddy-buddy with him? Not cool, dad, not cool.
Matt's eyes met with mine for a split second before I looked back down. I can't believe this is happening.
