"Oh my god," I said quietly as I read the piece of paper in my hands.
"What's that?" Ellie questioned as she ate her dinner.
"It's a letter," I responded smiling.
"What does it say?" She asked peaking over the counter.
"It's something for school," I replied and put it back into the envelope.
Grabbing my phone, I dialed my dad's number and put in on speaker phone. He answered after two rings, good he wasn't in a meeting. "I got accepted!" I exclaimed. "The Stanford program, I was accepted! I can go to Australia!"
"Good job Lauren! Have you talked to your mom yet?"
"No, I was just going to call her. Don't worry I'm not taking El over there," I added.
"Thank you. Lauren, I'm so proud of you!" My dad said and ended the call.
Next call, mom.
I talked with my mom for about an hour and it was all about the Australia trip. She didn't want me to go because it was so far away. This is what frustrates me! Oh my god, forget the fact that I was the one of the two selected to go to this program from the west coast but no Australia is too far. Puh-lease!
This is the trip of a lifetime. During the summer, I applied for a law program in Australia for a month. I didn't think I got in since I hadn't received a letter. But on the letter it had said they had troubles with their system so they've lowered the price and bought our plane tickets, so it was kind of a no brainer to go.
It took a while but I finally got my mom to agree to let me go. Now I get to pack. What's the weather like? I quickly typed in Sydney on my weather map; it's going to be in the 70's and 60's, so for me, that means sweaters! Now it says I need 10 business outfits and the rest is casual wear. I have an amazing pantsuit that's just so cute! And trust me, pantsuits aren't normally cute...
Ellie and I actually made a fun game out of me packing. She actually helped me organize my closet after rummaging through everything.
"Do you want to help me pack my makeup? I can put some on you while we do it," I said and Ellie squealed and said yes.
"What about this one?" She questioned holding up a black lipstick that I used for Halloween like two years ago. I still had that?!
"No, I should actually throw that away," I said and took it from her.
