Chapter 38 Chris’ POV

“Chris wait!” Sierra yelled.

I turned around. “What?”

“Where are you going?”

“I don’t know.  Autumn needs help.  This is all my fault.  If it wasn’t for me she wouldn’t be in here.”

“Chris, she loves you.  Don’t put this on yourself.”

“I love her so much and I just want her to be out of here.”

“They are doing their best.”

I looked at her.  I knew she was right.  “Couldn’t they go faster?”

She sighed. “They don’t have a lot of O-“

“Haley is O-!” I don’t know why I knew that but I did.

“Haley just woke up.  I dough she will jump at the chance.”

She is awake.  That’s great.  I had to ask her.

“We are at her room.  Let’s find out.”

I was surprised  when I found out they would be sharing a room.  They were both here for different reasons.

“Hey.” Haley said.

“Can I ask you something?” I looked down at the floor.

“Sure.”

“Would you donate blood to Autumn?”

“Yes!  Do they need my blood?  HOOK UP THE STUPID THING!”

I laughed a little.

“Haley will not be donating any blood.” The doctor said.

“And why will Haley not be donating her blood.”

“Because you just woke up and you are not yet stable.  And don’t refer to yourself in third person.”

Haley crossed her arms over her chest and raised one of her eyebrows.  “Wanna bet?”

I felt bad for this doctor.  He didn’t know what he was getting himself into.

“You are not yet ready.  Plus you are underage so you need parental consent.  I am not giving you any.”

“BUT THAT’S MY BEST FRIEND RIGHT THERE!  I need to help her if I can.”

“I’m sorry but as your father I need to watch out for you.”

I guess he did know what he was doing then.

“You’re not my real father.”

I silently begged for Haley to stop.

“Fine you can donate.”

An hour later Haley had donated blood to Autumn.

Autumn’s color was coming back.  She looked more like herself and less distant.

I sat down in one of the chairs in the corner.  Everyone was crammed into the tiny room.

Zach and Tori we’re here though.  I’ll ask why later.

I promised myself I would not leave Autumn’s side until she woke up.  I owed her that.  No matter what everyone says I will still blame myself for her being here.

Zach and Tori finally showed up.

“Where were you?” I asked.

Zach’s cloths were ripped and Tori looked mad.

“Stuck in the middle of hell.” 

I guess Tori really was mad.

Zach handed the keys to Haley’s dad.  “You might want to go to the shop to pick it up.”

“What did you do?  Plans not go as planned.”  I said.

“They went far off track I had no idea what to do.”

“Improvise?” I said

Zach glared at me.

“It was just a suggestion.”

I held Autumn’s hand.  That’s all I did for a long time.  I kept praying she would wake up.

“Guys, can I talk to my dad alone?” Haley asked. “Chris you can stay.  Just slide the curtain.”

I slid the plastic over and heard everyone leave.

“Haley two times in one month is not good.  I thought you were getting better.”

“Yeah, thought.  You didn’t bother to check up on me.  But I am doing better.  I promise.”

“You almost just died.  If that young man wasn’t there you would be dead.”

“I’m getting better.”

“Yeah I can tell.”  There was sarcasm in his voice.

I knew I shouldn’t be listening but I couldn’t help it.

“This time there was a trigger.  This time it wasn’t a panic attach.”  I could tell she wanted to yell but didn’t.  “I mean it was a panic attach but not like the others.”

“What was this ‘trigger’?”

“A test.”

“What kind of test?  Haley I need answers.  What caused it?”

“You need to chill.”

There was silence for a few seconds.  I leaned back in my chair.

“There was a pregnancy test in my bathroom.  I was about to change into my bathing suit and I looked into the corner and saw the test.”

“Did you read it?”

More silence.

“Was it positive or negative?”

“Positive.”

“DO you know whose test it is?  Is it one you your friends?”

“Yes.”

“You don’t have to tell me.”

“It was Daisy’s.”

I squeezed Autumn’s hand and I could swear she squeezed mine back.

Two unexpected things just happened.
