When Thursday arrived, it meant that there was exactly four days until Halloween. Reggie was dreading it while Jack was ecstatic.
During second period, Jack was making her way to her locker. She had her biology textbook pressed to her chest. She wanted nothing more than to place it her locker, not wanting to bring the heavy book all the way back home with her when she didn't actually need it.
She was about to turn the corner when she saw Reggie standing in the hallway with another boy, "You got the stuff?" The unknown boy suddenly asked, causing Jack's eyes widened as she quickly hid behind the wall while still eavesdropping.
"You got the money?" Reggie retorted and Jack peeked around the corner to see the boy slipping Reggie a fifty dollar bill while Reggie gave him a bag of pills.
The school suddenly rang, causing the two boys to go their separate ways before students began to file out of classroom, wanting nothing more to be done with that class period.
Jack took a deep breath before beginning to walk past Reggie. Reggie smiled when he saw Jack, "Hey, we still on for lunch?" He asked her, clearly in a good mood after dealing drug, unlike Jack, who had only witnessed it.
"Yeah," Jack awkwardly replied, giving him a large, yet fake, smile as she continued to walk down the hallway.
Reggie frowned in concern, feeling as though Jack was acting weird. He let out a sigh, deciding not to bother and headed in the direction of his next class.
At lunch, Jack was sitting in the student lounge room, hoping that Reggi would decide not to have lunch with her. Just then, a pair of hands rested on her shoulders as she sat on the couch, causing her to turn her head to see Reggie, "Hey," He greeted her with a smile.
"Hey," She replied quietly, smiling slightly as Reggie leaned forward.
She closed her eyes as Reggie's lips pressed against hers. The kiss was brief before Jack decided to pull away. Reggie continued to smile as he took a seat beside her on the couch.
"No lunch?" Reggie asked her curiously and Jack shook her head. He noticed the book in her hand and smiled, "It feels like it's been forever since I've seen you read a book."
"Maybe because I've been too busy trying to get you to fall in love with me every second of the day. Turns out, I'm the one falling for you now," She thought to herself before finally speaking up, "Just haven't had the time."
"What book is it?" He asked her curiously and Jack marked the part she left off on with a bookmark. Once doing so, she closed the book before turning the book so that Reggie could read the title on the cover, "To Kill a Mockingbird," He read aloud, turning his head to look at Jack with a smile on his face, "Something tells me you've already read it before."
"Three times," She responded, causing Reggie to give her a look of disbelief.
"How can you read the same book four times for time?" He questioned her in shock, "I can't even read a book for school once without feeling like I'm going to die of boredom."
"Well, that's one of the many things we don't have in common, Reginald Mantle," Jack jokingly replied, causing Reggie to frown in concern.
"We have things in common," Reggie complained, a pouty look on his face.
"Yeah, like what?" She questioned him daringly.
Reggie was silent for a long moment, trying to think of a similiarity they shared, "We're both two teens in high school, pretending to be something we're not," He revealed, causing Jack to tense up.
Jack was quiet for a long moment, debating on whether or not that moment in time would be the best time to mention the drug dealing, "Oh, like the fact you're pretending to be some stereotypical jock when you're actually a drug dealer?" She asked him in a hushed tone and Reggie's eyes widened in shock.
"How did you--" He began to ask her, a worried look on his face. He feared how Jack would react to it all. Most girls weren't okay with their boyfriends dealing, what made Jack different. But that was the thing. Jack wasn't like most girls. You could never compare her to any one else at their school because she was nothing like any of them.
"I saw you earlier today," She informed him in a calm tone, placing her book down in her lap before crossing her arms over her chest.
"Look, I can explain, Jack," Reggie replied, letting out a large sigh.
Jack laughed humorlessly, "Yeah, you better," She retorted with an attitude, "How long have you been dealing?"
"The end of last year," He informed her quietly, "I don't really remember how it all started, but I've dealing since then. Prescription pills, steroids, jingle jangle...you name it."
Jack tensed up at the mention of Jingle Jangle, knowing for a fact that it was a drug that the Ghoulies created, "Why?" She asked him in shock, trying her hardest to keep calm.
"I honestly don't know," Reggie answered with all honesty, "It gets boring and dull being just some ordinary football player. Dealing makes me different than everyone else."
"Do you need the money or something?" Jack questioned him, a truly concerned look on her face.
"No, no," Reggie immediately replied, shaking his head in response to her question, "Definitely not."
"Okay," Jack awkwardly stated, looking away from Reggie as she tried to process the information.
It wasn't the fact that she was pissed at him because he was dealing. Honestly, she couldn't less about him dealing. It was the fact that they had been practically involved with each other for over a month and Jack was only figuring it out just days before Halloween. She wondered, what else was he keeping from her?
"Say something, please," Reggie pleaded quietly, which shocked Jack. She rarely ever heard him beg, "Don't look at me differently."
"I'm not mad," Jack informed him, which caused Reggie's eyes to widen in disbelief, clearly not expecting her to respond with that, "Do whatever you want. It's your life. But if you get caught, then that's going to be your problem, not mine."
With that, Jack stood up from her seat, taking her book and bag along with her. She bent forward, pressing a kiss to Reggie's lips. She sent him a small smile before walking away.
