Chance Lively sat in her room silently watching a movie with the subtitles on; always on. Her fluffy golden retriever Bobby lie across her lap, chewing absently on a tennis ball.

The slanted walls were painted any blue and the regular walls duckling yellow, reminding Charlie Swan - her adoptive father - of a children's nursery. Her bed was pushed up against one wall and her wardrobe was fitted to the slanted wall. There was a large fluffy grey sofa at the end of her bed with a fluffy grey rug in front of it housing a coffee table littered with homework papers. Then there was her TV which was against the back railings of the stairs that ended opposite the wall at her bed. To the left of the stairs was a private bathroom that Charlie had installed to avoid any incidents that came along with her condition.

Chance Lively was deaf.

Today was the day that Charlie's biological daughter Bella Swan returned home. Charlie had informed Bella of the girls disability on a video chat so Chance could see an honest reaction. Much to Chance's relief, Bella looked only shocked before it morphed into an accepting look.

In the two years of Chance attending Forks schools, she had realised that no one even knew that she was deaf. No one at all.

In all honesty, Chance can't remember a single thing before she turned deaf - she hadn't heard a single sound since her first birthday. She hadn't bothered to pick up the name of the condition that made her deaf, she preferred not knowing.

However, Chance felt slightly more comfortable living with Isabella Swan knowing she was accepted.

Suddenly, Bobby's head shot up, indicating that Charlie was home by the way he nudged Chance the way he nudged her whenever anyone approached or entered their house.

Quickly, the brunette girl paused Clue and allowed Bobby to lead her down the stairs into the upper hallway.

She was surprised to see Bella and Charlie standing outside Bella's old - now once again - room. Charlie beckoned her over and Bella uncomfortably let Charlie tell Bobby that Bella was family and he should protect her too. Then Chance watched curiously as Bobby sniffed Bella before retreating back to Chance with a small sneeze.

Hi. Welcome home. Is what Chance would have said, but resulted into signing it to Charlie who gladly translated for her.

"You might have to learn some sign so you can actually talk to Chance, she's a good kid. Just don't tell anyone that she's deaf. It makes her uncomfortable." Charlie explained to his blood daughter in both words and hand signals.

Once Bella had greeted Chance, she disappeared into her room whilst Charlie and Chance headed downstairs, they were expecting Jacob Black and his physically disabled father Billy Black to come round and greet Bella as well as watch the football game that was due on.

After a few minutes of silent conversation between Chance and her adoptive father, Bobby began to nudge Chance excitedly, causing a grin to spread across her face as Charlie lunged to the door and yanked it open, letting Bobby pounce towards the two native Americans.

Both of the had long black hair and familiar tanned skin that made Chance's frown shrink down before a larger content look took its place. When she reached them, Charlie had just finished talking to them.

"Good afternoon, flower." Billy signed to her, causing her to sign a greeting to them both back.

Jacob tapped her shoulder and he pulled her in for a tight hug. When he finally released, he signed to her ; "love the jumper." He informed her seriously "I hope you didn't miss me too much." Chance rolled her chocolate eyes at his playful statement before she saw Bella stand beside Charlie.

Chance stood idly as they began a conversation without sign - which involved Charlie and Billy play fighting - letting her give Bobby a quick little belly rub before she watched Bella hastily climb into her new red truck, whacking Jacob on the head as he hastily ran around to explain the problems the car was currently having.

A few hours later, Bella was sat in the attic room with Chance, beginning to watch the Titanic - however, they were passing notes more than listening and reading. Bella passed her a note:

Can I give you a ride to school?

Glancing upwards at the girl, Chance nodded at her new found friend and she watched Bella sigh in relief. Chance just knew that Bella was glad to have a friend..

Charlie called the girls down for dinner not long after, grinning in accomplishment at the microwave pizza that he had cut into three slices along with some chips he had delivered from the local Kabab shop. With a roll of their eyes, the two girls joined Charlie in their meal.

Happiness sparked Chance when she saw how happy he was to be around both of his girls and actually be able to have a long conversation with one of them. It wasn't that he didn't like eating with Chance, it was just a nice change for Charlie - and to be quite frank, Chance was happy for this change.

Dinner was devoured by Charlie and Bella but as usual, Chance took more time eating, occasionally dropping a chip to Bobby who was currently laying by her feet.

Chance could already see it: her life was going to get a lot less boring and a whole lot more dangerous..

I hope you enjoyed this chapter!!
