"But he looks good in leather so I don't give a fuck"
~ Bishop Briggs "Baby"
It had been a few months since Bella returned home, and Chance couldn't even spare her a glance, she walked to school now, not wanting to sit in a stuffy car ever again after the day of travelling back with Bella in the front seat of the police cruiser.
Today was prom day. And just like she said before, she is not going to prom, not even if it was then last thing she ever done.
So instead, she dressed herself in a red chequered shirt, black jeans with her usual boots on and tucked some spare clothes into her bag. Paul was going to drive her down to the Rez so she could meet up with Sam, Paul and Jared once more.
Today's activity was cliff jumping so she was meeting them early, gladly missing Bella's prom night photos as she pretended everything was ok.
Jasper wanted to see her before he was dragged to prom by Alice - acting as her date as she was not allowed to bring Jordon, so he and Alice dropped by the Swan household.
"Hey." Jasper signed with a cute smile. Chance couldn't help it, her recently frozen over heart thawed slightly.
Ever since that terrible day, Chance hadn't even had a single happy thought, she was trapped in her head. It hurt her to think that Bella thought that lowly of her, that she was that bothersome.
Jasper kept reminding her, on an hourly basis that she was perfect and Bella was wrong for what she said. He and Edward argued more if he ever caught Jasper putting down his girlfriend like that. Edward however despite that, was still sympathetic towards Chance and whenever Bella brought up the topic, he got slightly moody.
Alice seemed to always know what was going through her head, always knew what she was going to do before she done it. Once, Chance tried to 'accidentally' miss the steak she was cutting and slice something else, but as soon as she was about to put that plan in action, Alice jumped in with a frown.
To be completely honest, Chance was now depressed. She had support groups before that she used to go to for help and closure, but now she didn't have the energy to even think about going to the support groups.
Chance stopped leaving the house, only taking Bobby for a walk when he got restless, Jasper visited, either with Emmett, Rosalie or Jordon. Alice popped round every couple weeks to make sure she was ok. In school, Chance was less enthusiastic, she didn't do her homework, barely was able to do the bare minimum of work, her grades slipped and her life slipped away with it.
That's when Billy decided to send Paul to pick her and Bobby up every Friday night keep her at the Rez for the weekend and then return them always by ten o'clock the next Sunday.
At the Rez, Billy would tell Chance stories, introduced her to their tribe. She came to their council meetings, done their activities with them, camping, hiking, mechanics. She was a natural.
"Hi." Chance signed back, her entire body radiating a terrible heat that made Jasper flinch slightly, Chance not seeing this. "Come to wish me luck?" She asked him carefully, her hands getting slightly clammy.
"No. I don't think you'd need it," he replied, repeating so when he realised Chance had blacked out for a second, her face getting unbearably hot. "But your not ok, are you?" He pointed out with raised eyebrows. Both of their eyes glanced quickly up at the staircase which Alice and Charlie has climbed to join Bella.
"I'm fine." She replied. Jasper didn't know who she met with every weekend, but he wished he did, he wanted to protect her and take this persons place but whenever he asked her, or even smelled her, she was the same; answerless.
