"Give me a minute to hold my girl
Give me a minute to hold my girl"

~ George Ezra "Hold My Girl"

When Bella and Jacob returned, Chance was drying her hair and she was wearing a fresh outfit. Bella realised that all their eyes were bloodshot and realised why everyone thought they were all on drugs, they were all so tired.

After Jacob had explained to them all what Bella had told him - the red headed vampire was named Victoria and she wanted to kill Bella - Jared had let out a hearty laugh.

"Excellent. If the redhead is after Bella. We've got bait." Jared joked, he and Chance being the only ones amused by this morbid humour that he had thrown into their serious discussion.

Shocked, Bella watched as Jacob picked up two four pronged garden tools and launched them both at the two with incredible speed and accuracy. She was evenly shocked that both parties managed to dodge it without batting an eyelash and catch the tools.

"She's not bait." He reminded them, his glare hardening on Chance's face.

"Relax." She sighed, dropping the tool onto the table and plucking up her fifth muffin of the day. "It was a joke, calm the hell down." She teased, picking off a small chunk and throwing it at him, which he gladly caught in his mouth with a wink.

Currently, the group was sitting in the garden eating the large breakfast that Emily and Sam had prepared for them all.

"I should leave town." Bella decided, but Chance rolled her eyes and immediately shut this down - it took Bella by surprise as she was still shocked that she could hear them all.

"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard come out of your mouth Bella Swan." She scoffed, popping a blueberry into her mouth. The rest of the pack agreed immediately and Bella felt her cheeks warm up.

Quickly, Sam swallowed his mouthful, "Victoria will follow you and make it harder for us to catch her." He pointed out.

She shook her head, "no one can catch her. She can escape anything." Bella defied, doubting the pack.

She turned to Paul who clasped his hands together before exclaiming, "ooh, she has special powers." He joked, but then Jared and Embry let heir eyes shift to Bella urgently.

"Some of them do." She let out, instantly regretting it as all their eyes snapped to her.

"Like.. what, Bella?" Jacob questioned quickly, his eyes burning holes into his scull. She realised that Chance was the only one who was disinterested, still chowing down on her food, reminding Bella of the first time she ate in the diner with Chance and Charlie where Chance didn't acknowledge anything and simply ate her food.

Jared cut in, "the mind reader you said you knew. He was a suckhead?" Chance snorted loudly, "Can they all do that?" He asked reproachfully.

Embry sighed, "that would suck."

"Yeah it would." Chance contributed, a sly grin on her face as she stuffed it with more fruit.

"No, I - shouldn't have - no." She stuttered and Paul rolled his eyes I. Disappointment.

"she's  still protecting them." He observed, his mouth full of French toast.

Scoffing, Jared replied with, "I don't know why. It's not like they stuck around to protect you." He pointed out with a small glare.

"Guys stop." Jacob commanded sharply, causing them all to stop.

A small thud was heard as Chance dropped a pineapple slice onto her plate, they all stared at her as she gave Bella a challenging look, "one can read minds, another can see the future and another can read emotions." She stated, Bella gave her a questioning look, "it's amazing what you can discover when they think you're deaf. They don't Bother hiding their words." Sam gave her an approving loom. "Oh yeah, no one can know, ok? It's supposed to be impossible for me to suddenly be able to hear again. I'd be tested on.." Chance huffed out.

"Alice, calm down." Carlisle sighed, staring at the phone his adoptive daughter just handed him with a frustrated sigh, "there has to be a logical reason for this." He pointed out, gesturing to the mountains of unanswered texts that had been sent to Chance over the last week. "Don't jump to conclusions, ok?"

She huffed, "sorry Carlisle, it's just so stressful knowing that I can't see Chance's future so I'm just using Bella's as a guide to check if she's alive."

Jasper strolled in with a desolate look about him, "when was the last time she slept in Forks?" He questioned, the entire family looked at him in panic, they knew how Chance's future was a sensitive subject due to circumstance.

Alice began to think, "almost half a week.." she sighed softly, "she only really goes home to check on Charlie or get a fresh set of clothes." She explained, Jasper nodded.

"So they're both safe." He declared, "end of discussion." He didn't let the conversation end however, "I'm just so confused, Edward can't read her thoughts, I can't feel her emotions, Alice can't see her future.. I'm completely helpless to my mate." He pointed out, Edward frowned.

"She's my best friend.." he trailed off, he had began to feel guilty about not saying goodbye to Chance or missing her at all. After all he knew her longer than Bella, it was wrong for him to neglect her like he had.

Jasper felt his brother's emotions and let out a long sigh, "Ed, it's not your fault. You were in love." Edward let his head shoot up to face his honey blonde sibling.

"Yes, but you managed to lead a normal life and act as if nothing crazy was being set off inside you, I couldn't.." He pointed out, as much as he loved Bella, he couldn't help but miss the deaf girl who used to throw paper balls at the back of his neck during Biology or pull stupid faces at him whenever they met eyes across the lunch table.

"We all miss her." Esme sighed, "she was the life that Jasper needed.. she even got Jordon more excited at the sight of a puppy than a can of spray paint, like that was ever possible before." They all sighed, she had brought them each at least two happy memories that they couldn't forget, even if they tried, she was just a beacon of happiness without a smile.

The next day, Chance waved goodbye to Harry and her father as they, and a couple more men went on a hunting trip to take down the 'beasts' that lurked in the Forrest. Today, she promised Emily to help her around in the kitchen, so that was exactly what she done.

"Emily! How do I turn the fire on?" Chance asked, crouching down to stare in the oven where the flame should be, hoping it would light it - it didn't.

She heard a short laugh and Bobby barking in the background as he played around with Billy, who was currently sitting in his wheelchair, playing with Bobby with a tennis ball, Emily occasionally appearing to check on him.

Once Emily had successfully lit the fire, she pushed in the cookies before pulling Chance up to help her with the batter.

"Why do you cook so much? I know we are pigs but we've been at this for hours.." Chance sighed, and then her phone pinged with a message.

Happy to get away from the baking and cooking, Chance bounced over to her phone, letting her face fall.

CHARLIE:
- Harry just had a heart attack.. were on our way to the hospital now. Find Bella and go home please. I need someone to be there waiting for me..

A tear slipped down Chance's face, Harry Clearwater was the most amazing human she had ever met, he had been there for her since she was fifteen. Teaching her how to fish with her father and Waylon..

She slowly turned to Billy, who was hanging up the phone. "I-I need to go." He mumbled, rolling out of the house without another word..
