"Cold nights and the Sunday mornings
On your way and out of the grey"~ George Ezra "Hold My Girl"
Chance was currently laying across the hood of Bella's truck, her eyes closed as she let the rain soak into her thin choice of clothing. Bobby was currently sleeping along with everyone else in the house, but Chance didn't even want to attempt sleeping. After her breakdown in front of Paul that morning, she had stormed home and then waited for everyone to go to sleep before sneaking out of down alone time.
What she didn't realise was that Charlie had heard her and was currently peeking through his curtains to see what Chance was doing. His eyes dropped.
Hesitantly, he approached his daughter, a blanket tucked under his large puffy coat. Chance had her eyes closed, and she was gasping. Unbelievably, the girl had fallen asleep in the short time it took Charlie to collect his coat and a blanket before leaving the house.
His heart broke as he wrapped her tightly in the blanket before taking her inside where Bobby sat waiting for her.
Carefully, he lowered her onto the sofa so he could take off her shoes and socks before calling Bella down the stairs. "Honey, could you.. get Chance into some warm clothes?" He asked awkwardly, seeing the tired girl's eyebrows raise.
"Sure" Bella spat out in attempt to keep her from sleeping, "I'll go now and pick her out something." With that, Bella shot them both warm smiles before ascending the stairs, not understanding what was going through her sister's head.
Bella thought she understood Chance. She had been becoming quite the delinquent - staying out past curfew, staying at Paul's or Emily's (a woman that Bella was yet to meet) when she isn't supposed to, following Sam around like a lost puppy. But to see her just sleeping out in the freezing cold rain with skin hotter than a radiator was not what she could understand.
She wished she could simply call Jacob and ask for him to look out for her whenever Charlie let her go to the Rez, but Jacob hadn't talked to her since Billy told Charlie he had mono and quite frankly, she was worried about him too.
Once Charlie had bring Chance up to her room and left rapidly, Bella took a strand of Chance's soaked brown locks, that could have been black if you saw it in a dim light, and let out a soft sigh. "What am I going to do with you?" Bella asked softly, unaware that Chance had awoken and was listening carefully to what Bella was saying.
The next day, Chance had left for school after Paul picked her and Bobby up in his truck. Once again, she received a message from Alice;
ALICE CULLEN:
- Chance, are you ok? You haven't replied to any of my messages recently.Paul heard Chance read the message through the link and scoffed in faux amusement, his and Chance's eyes narrowing in annoyance.
"Stay calm." Chance whispered to herself and to the shifter beside her, "stay calm. They're not here. They're not coming here." She repeated constantly.
ALICE CULLEN:
- Chance please. I'm sorry we left, Carlisle was offered a better job."Bullshit." Jared deducted, his voice was harsh and filled with distaste. Chance was sure his face was a mixture of fury and disgust. A light smile filled her lips as she glanced at Paul with a teasing look.
"I don't need a phone, right?" She asked casually, dropping it into the glove compartment. The older boy laughed heartily at her as he parked in the school lot.
Silently, Chance picked up Bobby's lead and threw on her backpack before she and Paul threw open their doors and climbed out.
Her eyes grazed the lot, looking around for Jared, Embry and Jacob who found them not long after Paul had locked the truck up. "Good morning, gentlemen." She signed, a bright smile pressed on her lips.
Confused, Jared and Embry gave her questioning looks. "Why so chipper?" Jacob asked her as they began to head towards the school.
Winking, Chance shrugged and allowed herself to be pulled through the halls by Paul, Bobby trotting proudly beside her, his tongue lolling out of his mouth.
"I don't understand.." Alice frowned, staring at her phone whilst Jasper and Rosalie sat playing cards with stale faces. "She always replies.. even when she's mad.."
Sighing, Jasper gave her a sad look, "just keep an eye on her. You still in touch with Alfie?" Alfie was Jordon's grandfather.
Jordon shot Jasper a sad look. "She's always with the pack. Or the imprints." Jordon explained to him, "she barely ever leaves the Rez and if she does she's holed up with Charlie or sitting on Bella's truck.." The southern vampire's eyes squinted in confusion.
"Why on Bella's truck?" Jasper asked, hoping Chance was ok. He felt as though his soulless heart had been fragmented and trapped in everything the Chance done.
Jordon shrugged, "Alfie said that the last time he drives past her home, it was pouring hard with rain and she was just chilling on top of Bella's truck - asleep. Whenever he visits the Rez, she's upset or arguing." He explained, eyeing Jasper's downcast features as he heard of his mate's hardships. He had done that to her. "I think that being at Forks High was too much for her, she's transferred to a school at the Rez." Jasper's heart sunk to the pits of his stomach - now he would never even get a glimpse of her. She was permanently out of his reach.
"Fuck." Was all he could say when the door slammed open, revealing one fuming bronze haired vampire which the ability to read minds..
