"And I love the way that
He puts my seat back"~ Bishop Briggs "Baby"
The next day, Chance was reeling in pain, she had left her painkillers in Charlie's car and he was driving them today due to Bella's truck being in the school parking lot still.
Charlie had talked to the hearing dog trainers who said that Bobby could start going to school with Chance to prevent any more accidents that may occur.
When Chance had chosen her seat in the back of Charlie's cruiser, he handed her the bottle of painkillers which she tucked in her pocket. Bobby sat calmly beside her wearing his hearing dog harness to alert people not to stroke him or call him as he was there to protect Chance, not to play.
As they set off, Chance watched as Charlie tried to make Conversation with Bella who mostly just shrugged him off as she nodded absently, occasionally checking on Chance who was turned her attention to glumly glaring out the window.
She was still mostly in shock which was easily seen as her right hand- the injury free arm - was white due to the pressure she was putting down on Bobby's lead.
Today the Cullen's were supposed to tell Chance that they could no longer be friends for her safety, but the moment she stepped out of the cruiser holding Bobby's lead as she allowed him to lead her forwards, they simply couldn't bring themselves to do it. All the looks she was being given, the rumours beginning to fill everyone's ears, but not hers. Never hers.
Bella was a different story, she jumped out the cruiser after promising her dad she'd look after Chance before chasing down her sister with a sad smile.
Mr. Molina - who was in charge of this trip began to tell Bella that Chance was not allowed to bring a pet on the trip but immediately apologised when Bella explained that Bobby was her hearing dog.
Fortunately, Bella was distracted by Mike, whereas the three Cullen's ten metres away would have been Chance's only way of distracting herself from the memories of yesterday, if she noticed them, as she stared in horror at the skid marks from the van's tires. Her eyes began to water and Bobby nudged her in the leg softly, silently asking if she was ok.
A small smile hit the girl, before it fell off as she ran her fingers through Bobby's golden fur. He nudged her again, he vibrates slightly - growling.
Her head shot up to see Jasper standing there with Alice and Edward. She gave them uneasy smiles.
"Good morning, Chance." Jasper signed, his body rigid and face stiff. If it wasn't for the steady rise and fall from his chest, then she would have thought he was dead. Edward looked uncomfortable.
"You have a hearing dog now?" He asked her curiously, his eyes never leaving the hostile looking dog. Chance simply nodded.
"Sit with us on the bus." Alice offered, an easy grin on her face. Chance just shrugged, glaring at the marks on the
Floor.Images flashed behind her eyes. The card. The van. Bella's truck. The crowd. The ambulance. The worry. Charlie. Bella.. Jasper.
Her eyes watered slightly and Edward gave her a sad smile, suggesting that he knew what she was thinking. Before she could even smile back she pulled Bobby back slightly as he snapped his teeth at their feet, causing Chance to hastily drop to his level and whine at him.
Upon hearing the small noise she made, Bobby spun around and placed his head on her knee in apology. Jasper felt his lips quirk up slightly at her interaction with the cute creature.
