Chapter 8: New Things
________________________________________________"You want me to feed her?"
"That is correct."
Colonel William Lennox threw his hands in the air and gestured wildly between the green medic and the girl standing beside him. "She's not human!"
"I am aware, Colonel."
"Then I'm sure she can't eat human foods just like you guys!" The army man screeched, ignoring the odd look she received from passing soldiers. "You eat our food, you die! We eat yours, we die!"
Liza froze. Die? She just wanted food. She didn't want to die.
"I made sure to do a thorough scan and her body works similar to how your human body works. You both have the same skeletons, same organs and the same immune system; however her blood differs from yours and she is capable of abilities that you do not possess."
"All the more reasons why she can't eat our food!"
"Colonel Lennox please," The medic sighed and settled a hand on his hip. "Liza hasn't eaten in days."
"Days?" He turned his attention over to Liza. "Your parents didn't pack you a lunch on the way over here, kid?"
Ratchet quickly answered for her. "She was neglected and under abuse while with her parents. She claims that neighboring residents were the ones who saved her from them."
The army man turned serious. "Gee kid, I had no idea you were going through all that." He threw an arm around her small shoulders and guided her in the direction of the Mess Hall. "It's a good thing it's lunch time. We need to get some food on that little tummy of yours. Hopefully you won't drop dead or anything. I'm William by the way, but just call me Will."

Liza curiously eyed the dark skinned man as he promptly sat himself at the table beside her and took a bite of his burger, munching slowly as he returned her curious gaze.
"Her name's Liza, right?" Epps questioned, receiving a nod from the medic that towered over them.
"That is correct. Liza, this is Sergeant Robert Epps."
She offered a shy wave. "H-Hello."
"Yo." He raised a hand. "Hard to believe you just shot from sky when you look like us. What's your purpose here anyway?"
"When ya gonna buy the kid some new clothes?" The man, taking another bite of his burger.
Clothes? Liza picked at her dirty clothes, a frown pulling on her lips as she glared at the torn material. Maybe she did need some new clothes.
And a bath.
Desperately.
"Clothing?" The medic blinked. "Perhaps one of you humans are capable of purchasing Liza new clothing since we do not have a clear understanding of human currency or your 'fashion choices'."
Epps briefly stopped chewing and pointed a finger at Ratchet. "I think you're gonna have to find a female for that. The kid might have a certain style and I'm not a exactly a fashion expert."
Confusion crossed the medic's features. "Are the males of this planet not capable of choosing their own clothing?"
The man laughed. "That's not it. I'm just saying it would be best if a woman went clothes shopping with Liza rather than me, a man who knows nothing about women stuff."
"And who is this human female you're suggesting?"
He shrugged. "Well maybe Sarah could help."
"Mrs. Lennox?"
