Chapter 53: Humans
_____________________________________________"Greetings."
"Hello, Grandfather. How are you doing?"
"I am doing well. I hope I can assume the same for you?"
"Yep. I just started training and I think I'm getting better at my Cybertronian form. All I need now is a car to transform into, but I haven't had any luck with that. I need something that will fit me and help in the middle of combat."
"Perhaps, I can help with your training and new alt form."
"Really?"
_______________________________________________"William, what are you doing?"
"Raking leaves." The army man cast me
a glance as he continued to pile up leaves with this....pitchfork thing? Annabelle was standing by, watching closely as he worked. She seemed excited about the growing pile for some unknown reason."What's that you're using?"
"A rake."
"What's it for?"
"Well," He reached over and added a smaller pile to the bigger leaf pile. "When fall comes around leaves change their colors and fall from the trees. They're annoying to people who want clear yards, so they rake them up in a pile and burn them or just throw them in a trash bag. Others use the leaves for fun."
"What's the fun in this?" I asked, gesturing to him ''raking the leaves''.
"You can rake 'em in piles and jump in them."
"Here on Earth, it's fun to jump in a pile of leaves?"
Humans are really weird.
"To some of us, yeah. I grew up doing it with my brothers, and Anna likes doing it too. Watch."
He gently picked the girl up by her underarms and dropped her into the pile of leaves, earning himself a worried grunt from a certain truck who happened to be nearby for the giggling girl buried in the leaves.
"Do you have to drop her like that?"
"Ah, don't worry, Hide. She likes it like that, don't worry I won't actually hurt my own daughter. I'm not crazy."
You sure?
The 'bot went to his old' grumbling and rolled back into the shade under his tree.
"Daddy! Again! Again!" Bells cheered.
"Alright, alright." He pulled her from the pile, before dropping her again, earning another fit of giggles.
"Wanna try it?" He asked.
"I still don't see the point in it."
"Come on Lizzy, it's fun!" Anna cheered happily as she jumped into the pile again.
"If you try it, you might understand it better. Want me to throw you in?"
"No thanks." I quickly said. "I'll just...." I walked up to the pile and jumped into it, the leaves crunching under my weight.
This felt weird. I didn't feel any type of excitement or cheery, but I did feel the need to do it again.
"This is silly!"
"It's fun, right?"
"It's just silly," I said, picking myself up.
"But it's fun. See?" He took a step back and dove headfirst into the pile.
Crazy, much?
"Hahaha! Look at daddy!" Anna pointed.
I allowed a small grin spread across my lips.
"Crazy humans," Ironhide grumbled in the short distance.
I agree, humans are crazy.
_______________________________________________"Those are....um...pumpkins right?"
"Yep," Will answered as he lifted the orange gourd onto the kitchen table.
"Don't you humans carve faces into them and set lights inside for Halloween?"
"Well yeah," He said, reaching for a knife and began cutting around the stem at the top. "But since it's still in season, we can use them for other things."
"Like what?"
"Pumpkin pie."
"Pie? A pie made out of a pumpkin?"
"Yea, Sarah's gonna make some today." Once the top was off, he reached in and began pulling out the insides and setting them in a bowl.
"Why are you pulling out the seeds?"
"Gotta separate the seeds, so we can use the pumpkin for the pie."
A pie made out of a human gourd?
The human sighed and smacked his lips as if he could already taste it. "It's gonna be so good. A nice homemade pumpkin pie. It's been forever since I had one.
"Just to let you know, I threw up yesterday from eating too much. I'm not having any."
"I'm sorry, okay, but you have to try pumpkin pie. It's not like I'm asking you to eat eight whole pies by yourself."
"That's what it felt like yesterday."
"I'm sorry, it won't happen again." He grabbed a wet towel and wiped his hands. "But can you at least try it?"
"No, Ratch is already gonna kill me back at base if he finds out. Do you want my dad to revive me with the Matrix, so he can kill me again?"
"IF he finds out."
Sigh. Humans.
_______________________________________________"Why are you trying to start a fire?"
"S'mores."
"What?"
"We're going to make s'mores."
The human man was crouched down by a pile of sticks with a lighter in hand and some old papers close by. Now all he needed was some luck.
"What's a s'mores?"
"You'll see." He grinned. "Aha!" We got a fire. The small flames slowly started to grow, using the wood for fuel. "You're gonna like this."
I watched closely as he opened a bag of marshmallows and stuck it onto a skinny stick, before holding it over the growing fire.
"What are you doing?"
"Roasting marshmallows. It's part of making s'mores."
After a minute of spinning the stick over the fire, he made sure it was warm and sticky, before planting the marshmallow on a thick cracker, and placing a piece of chocolate, topping it off with another cracker. "Perfect." He handed the sweetness to me. "Try it."
"Will, I already said-"
"Just try it." He huffed and rolled his eyes while sticking two more marshmallows onto the stick.
"...fine."
I licked the melting chocolate off a finger and took a bite.
"WHO INVENTED THIS MASTERPIECE?!"
"Right."
