+ training room +
Mags, Ridley and I all stood in the elevator as it dropped quickly, Ridley and I in our training gear as we mentality prepared ourselves for the long day in the training room. I had black leggings on, a tank top with the number 4 on my back so everyone knew where I was from, my hair was tied up into a right ponytail which was hurting my head a little bit.
"You don't show off in the training centre, you have a few days make the most of it, practise your survival skills" Mags told us, leaning against the glass of the elevator as she put her hands on the metal bar, looking over at us. "I thought we need to show off to the game makers, and the careers" Ridley asked her, his eye brows furrowed as he ran his hand through my hair quickly, standing in the corner as I looked back at Mags. "You need to show we are threats" he added, wearing a t-shirt the identical colour to my top, a 4 on his sleeve.
"Not today, not for the first few days, after that then start to show off" Mags said as the elevator doors opened, Ridley walking off, before he could say anything else to Mags. I went to follow after him, Mags grabbing my hand and pulling me back into the elevator, her grip too tight as I looked down at her hand. "Ow" I said as she let go of me, causing me to rub the spot where her fingers had dug into my skin. "The careers like you" she told me, walking out of the elevator before me, causing me to follow after her, still holding my wrist in my hand as I trailed behind her.
"You need to show off" she told me, turning around to look at me as i nodded my head at her quickly, letting out a small breath. "What about Ridley?" I asked her, causing her to stop as she looked over at me, shaking her head which was enough to tell me the answer to my question. "Do me a favour, pick up a trident" she said, placing a hand on my shoulder, steering me back in the direction of the centre as we walked down the hall slowly.
"After the parade there are citizens that are interested in you, the girl with the glittery hair and long legs" she said to me, holding her hand out in front of her as I nodded my head at her, knowing that the show I had put on would have made at least 1 person notice me. "So you need a high score, you need to give them something to save" she continued, stopping outside the peacekeeper guarded doors as I looked forward at them, feeling intimidated under their gaze.
"You got that?" she asked me, even though i didn't look over at her, continuing to stare into the training centre, the glass doors showing off the people inside, my fists balling by my side. "Waverley" she said once more, trying to get my attention as I snapped my head back to look at her, swallowing the lump in my throat as I nodded my head before opening my mouth.
"Yeah"
!
The doors slid closed behind me as i stood still in my spot, the dimly lit room echoing with every grunt that a tribute made. I looked around the room, a large range taking up the far end of the room, nets and ropes hanging from the roof. There were weapons everywhere, lying on tables and being propped up on steel racks, just waiting for someone to pick them up.
I looked to see Nolan standing with her bow drawn, a target at the end of the range already pierced with arrows, Velvet was on the range next to hers, a holster around her waisted holding multiple throwing knifes as she launched them smoothly. I took a deep breath, turning to see the boy from 7 attempting to start climb a large net which was strung from the ceiling. He was tiny, like if he jumped off of where he was now his legs would snap under the pressure of his body weight alone, Valour stood with a spear in front of him, the head dug into the floor as he sneered at the attempt the other tributes were making.
His eyes made his way to me, a smirk dancing on his face as he shot me a wink, making me quickly divert eye contact as I took a deep breath, moving over to the rack and standing in front of it. I stared at the trident for a moment, my shaky hand reaching forward as i grabbed it off of the rack, the light weight of it surprising me. They were much lighter than a traditional trident, because they obviously served a different purpose in what they were meant to be killing.
I flipped it around in my hand a few times, the cold metal sending shivers up my arm as I moved it in between my fingers, taking in a deep breath as. I took a deep breath, walking over to the raised mats which say in the middle of the room. I climbed up onto one of them, standing in the middle of it as I held the trident in my hand, my palms sweating in fear as I took a few breaths in before letting them out again.
I held my hands above my head, spinning the trident in circles a few times gently as I got a feel of how light it was, knowing to adjust my grip on the handle. I let out a deep breath, bringing my trident down by my side swiftly, making many sharp movements, as if stabbing imaginary enemies, holding my breath as I did so. I threw the trident up high, doing a quick ariel to turn me around before leaving my hand up, catching it and continuing to strike the air, swinging it above my head as I threw it into the air, catching it in my other hand easily.
It was slightly weighted due to the blades as I brought it down by my side, the mat thudding at the sound of the blades hitting it as I let out a breath, slowly shuffling to the side of the mat as I jumped down into the floor, walking back over to the rack. Both Valour and Ashlor were standing together, staring over at me as I put my trident back up on the rack, hearing a whistle as I turned to look at the boys who were still looking at me, smirks on their faces.
"Nice show, 4" Valour remarked, winking at me as he licked his bottom lip quickly, still holding a spear by his side as he dug it into the ground, almost leaning against it. "Hate to see someone kill you" he said to me, turning away fro me as he whispered something to Ahslor, who was still staring at me as I turned away quickly, already hating this whole idea of the training room.
