+ rain +
day nine
I sat up against the tree, watching Ridley as he lay down next to me on the large leaf his head on his arm as he slept silently, his breathing quiet as his chest rose and fell. It was already late morning at this point, but Ridley has been sleeping for a while now, and I didn't want to wake him up quite yet. I had pulled down the long vines from a near by tree this morning, using them to tie around Ridley's stomach to keep the cloth parachute in place bite having to hold it.
I had torn the other one up into strips, one tied around the cut on my tricep and the other wrapped around my neck tightly, but not tight enough for it to strangle me. I had peaked under the fabric on my arm, the cut healing nicely as new red cells patched over it, having healed nicely considering the birds having managed to almost hit bone before I got away from them. Whatever this medicine was it definitely was not going to be cheap, especially at this point in the games, the sponsers getting more and more expensive as the games went on.
I leaned my head against the tree I was leaning against, letting out a deep breath as I stared up at the trees. Through the cracks of the leaves I could see dark clouds looming, meaning it was probably going to rain soon, which was good, as most of the water sources in here were on the other side of the arena from where we currently were. I let out a breath as I looked around, the area we were currently in being filled with trees and nothing else, the large trunks going on for as long as I could see.
My eyes were threatening to close, but I opened them instantly, knowing that if both of us were asleep, we'd basically be asking for someone to attack us. I opened my eyes as I let out a small sigh, looking down at my hands, the bed of my nails covered in dry blood and dirt, the pale pink nail polish that I had worn in the Capitol completely chipped.
There was a loud crack of thunder as I looked up, the dark clouds covering the trees as a gust of wind swept past us. I stood up quickly, wanting to grab another large leaf off of the tree to try and catch some of the rain water so we could drink it. I walked over to the tree, looking up and letting out a deep breath. I jumped into the air, managing to grab onto the side of it as I yanked it down off of the tree, almost getting hit in the face by it. The rain started, slowly trickling down the leaves of the trees as the sound of the water hitting off of the leaves consumed us.
I walked back over to the sleeping Ridley, trying to think of the best way to position this leaf to make the water fall into it. There was a small stinging feeling on the back of my leg as I thought for a moment, looking around to see if I could maybe make a holder for the leaf. The rain picked up a little bit as it started making its way down to the forrest floor, running down the large leafs of the trees and escaping through the gaps in the canopy.
I let out a hiss of pain as my arm started stinging, making me look down at it. "Ow" I said as I used my hand to wipe where it was sore, nothing being there that would indicate why it was painful. The pain spread onto my hand, the skin on my arm turning a pale red as I let out a small hiss, my shin stinging as well. I looked down, a small raindrop on my leg as it slowly hissed at the contact with me skin, making me use the leaf to wipe it off.
I was confused for a moment, wondering why each part of my exposed skin was stinging like I had been stung by a bee. When a raindrop hit me in the cheek as I let out a small yelp of pain as it burned like someone had thrown boiling water at me. I closed my eyes as I looked over to Ridley, picking up my leaf and holding it over my head as i walked over to the boy, who was still asleep, standing over him. "Ridley" I said to him as i kicked him in my he leg gently, making him wake up as his hand went straight to his machete handle.
