+ drought +
day three
We walked through the jungle, the humidity thick in the air as sweat beads trickled down my face, my tongue dry and irritated in my mouth as I tried to get some saliva moving in my mouth. The game makers had clearly cranked up the heat on the arena over night, as I woke up sweating and not being able to breath the thick air as well as the day before.
"We need some water" Nolan said, panting heavily as she used a large stick to walk up a steep hill we were making our way up. I stabbed my trident blades into the ground, gripping onto it tightly as I pulled my feet up, trying not to fall down as Valour held onto a vine attached to a tree next to me. "It's way too hot in here now" she added as I nodded my head, holding onto my trident as I used my free hand to wipe the sweat away from my forehead quickly.
"Let's get to the top of this hill and figure out what we want to do" Valour said as he kept walking, the sweat dripping off of his nose as I let out a sigh. I tried to get some saliva onto my tongue, which was extremely dry and itchy now that I hadn't had anything to drink since yesterday. I closed my eyes tightly, taking in a deep breath before I pulled my trident out of the ground, pitching it into higher up as I grasped it tightly, pulling myself up.
I took us way to long to get to the top of the hill, and when we were all of us collapsed to the ground, breathing heavy and sweat beads dripping off of our foreheads as I sat down, my elbows propped on my knees. I put my head in my hands, which both were drenched in sweat as I let out a shaky breath, my mouth irritated from how dry it was. I reached up to the back of my head, pulling the pins out that were keeping the braids that were formed from the top of my hair together.
I held them in my hand as two braids fell, making me pull both the hands out of the ends of them. I sat up straight, pushing the pins into the pouch on my waist as I pulled my hair back, tying it up to avoid it sticking to the back of my neck. "What now" Velvet asked as she sat up, using her hands and feet to push her over to a tree, leaning against it as she put her head back, raising her eyebrow lazily.
"We need water" Ashlor said, letting out a dry wheeze as he let go of his spear, using both of his hands to wipe the front of his face. "Let's go then" Valour said as he stood up quickly, holding his sword back down by his side as he started walking away from us all, making us stand up slowly and follow after him.
!
We had been walking for what seemed like hours, dragging behind Valour who didn't seem to be struggling even though he hadn't had any water in a long time now. I held my trident down by my side, the handle of it against my arm as I looked down at the ground, following the path of the dry mud, hoping that there would be water somewhere.
"There's got to be something somewhere right?" Velvet said to me quietly as I nodded my head, keeping my mouth shut to keep in whatever moisture it had left. "You'd think so" Nolan replied good he'd, holding her bow in her hand as we followed along, behind Ashlor who was sighing as he basically dragged his trident behind him.
Valour has stopped walking where he was, looking ahead of him as he turned around, waving his hand at us as we walked over to him. I looked at what he was looking at, and while it looked like the ground ahead of him was supposed to be flat, it was an incredibly steep hill, what was supposed to be a large river sitting at the bottom.
There was nothing there though, the dry mud on the ground bellow is showing where the bottom of the river used to me. "Why is there no water?" Valour asked as I stared down at it, looking to my left to see it lead on for quite a while, probably making its way to the beach. "I don't think that's meant to be a river" Ashlor said, shaking his head as he picked up a stone, throwing it as it landed in the wet mud, sticking into it.
"It was a river, you can tell by the dark mud, it had to be fully submerged in water" I said, pointing at it with my finger as I let out a sigh, shaking my head, hoping that if I cursed enough in my head it would suddenly fill up with water again. "They've drained it" I added, knowing that with this heat and the lack of water the game makers were hoping for someone to die today. "We should go back to the beach, hope we find more water" Ashlor said with a shrug as Velvet let out a deep sigh, putting her hand on her forehead.
"Let's just drink the water in the ocean, so what if it's salty" Ashlor said with a shrug as he looked over at me, making me shake my head at him as I ran my dry tongue around my mouth. "It'll just make you more thirsty, don't bother" I said to him, knowing that he already knew this, as I had been telling him for the past few days when he keeps trying to drink the water. He let out a deep sigh as he took a few steps back, making his way through the trees again as he turned back to look at us, sighing deeply.
"Let's go"
