+ the final two +

I held my hand out by my side, having to stop every few steps and lean against a tree, panting as I struggled to keep steady on my feet. The whole word around me was spinning in circles, the dryness of my mouth finally becoming evident as I stumbled over my feet. I held my trident under my arm tightly, the blades facing forward and my hand on my stomach as I tried to keep all of my guts in my body, which wasn't working as well as I would have hoped.

There was no chance that I would make it much longer, my intestines resting against my palm as I ran my tongue over my dry lips. I held my hand out as I leaned it against a tree, the moss damp with the acid rain as it stung my hand a little bit, but it didn't compare the rest of the pain I was feeling. I leaned my shoulders against it, resting my head against the bark as I tried to take in a deep shaking breath. By the state I was in I was expecting a parachute to drop any second now, but the more I thought about it I knew that there was nothing that they could send me which would help.

I was too far gone.

I knew that they would never send in a sponsor when there was only 2 people left, especially considering that I was so close to dying. No one was willing to spend money on someone who was already half way dead. They probably loved the tears I had shed for Ridley, sitting in front of large screens with tears in their eyes as I mourned the death of my friend.

I took another few steps, my knees way to weak to support my body as I put my hand out to try and lean against a tree, but completely missing it. I fell to the ground, collapsing onto my back as my hand fell down to my side, the handle of my trident digging into my shoulder, but I didn't have the energy to move it. My sigh drifted in and out as I found myself leaving my eyes closed after each blink for much longer that I probably should have let them. Ridley's voice rung through my head repeatedly, 'If I've counted right there should be 4 left'. Now with both Ridley and the girl from 7 dead that left 2 people in here, and I was hoping whoever it was wasn't in a better state than I was.

I tried to remember who's face I hadn't seen during the projections over the last few days, but the more I tried to remember the further the memories swam away from me. It all blurred together in my head, the blonde girl from District 3, Valour, Ashlor, Fuse, no matter who hard I tried to think I couldn't figure it out. I tried to picture a checklist in my head, running through everyone I could remember seeing in the sky and crossing them off.

I debated just lying here, not wanting to move an inch because it hurt that much. If I laid here for long enough maybe I would just be pulled into a deep sleep that I wouldn't wake up from. Or maybe whoever was left was in a worse condition than I was, barely holding on from the acid burns from the rain, so maybe they would die before I could. I thought about the sound of a canon, trying to manifest it into real lift, wanting to hear the canon followed by the flutter of birds who had been scared by the loud noise, the voice of a man thundering through the arena that announced I was the new victor of the Hunger Games.

The thought of my family swam around in my head. My mom leaving the living room in sobs as Kai and dad stared at the TV, watching me stagger through the fallen leaves as blood fell from my stomach. The idea of home seemed so far away, the feeling of swimming in the warm lake while the sun set This whole time I had tried to dissociate myself from the fact that thousands of people were watching me walk, run and bleed in this jungle, and now that I was in here I had always wondered where'd the cameras actually were.

I stared up at the trees, my chest shakily rising and falling as I fought the urge to just close my eyes. My hair was wet and thick of my own blood and filth, and you could barely see any clean part of skin. I tried to think as hard as possible, but it was almost as if it was painful, which was probably coming from the wave of pain that was hugging my body tightly. There was 1 more person in this arena with me, and I needed to figure out who it was to decide if I had a chance or not.

And then it hit me.

Velvet.
