Woods' POV
Tanner and I had fallen asleep outside wrapped in each other's arms. Our body heat keeping each other warm through the night. I awoke but it was still dark. I checked my phone and the time read 3:10 am. I didn't want to wake Tanner but I couldn't leave him out here.
"Tan? Wake up" I shook him a little and he slowly opened his eyes. "We need to go inside" He nodded and went back to sleep. I lifted him up and carried him inside. I locked out door and closed the curtain. He was still asleep so I crawled into bed next to him and hugged him tightly before falling back to sleep.
-Time Skip-
"Hey, guys wake up" I heard from outside along with a heavy knocking on the window. I slowly got up and nudged Tanner. I unlocked the door and saw Matt stood outside and the rest of the guys stood behind him. "Morning Woods." He entered the hut without another word. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"Oh nothing is wrong, we were just wondering what we were going to do today." He said reassuringly. I shrugged my shoulders.I walked back over to Tanner and nudged him again. "Tanner you need to wake up. Matt is here." He opened his eyes and stretched. "What did you say?" He said yawning. I gestured towards Matt. "Morning." Tanner just nodded in response. "I will let you two get sorted out. Meet us at the car and we can talk about what we will do.
I agreed and Matt headed out. I heard him tell the guys to go to the car. Tanner got up slowly and wandered into the bathroom. I quickly got changed while he was in there and sorted out my bag. He came back out of the bathroom and smiled. "Are they reasonably clean?" He asked pointing at his teeth. I nodded and went to do my teeth. When I left Tanner had changed into his black dungarees and white shirt.
We headed out to the car and met with the guys. "Originally we were meant to stay for only one night but we have come to an agreement that we will stay until tomorrow now." Matt said and the guys nodded. I was still half asleep and so was Tanner so we couldn't really process it, but we nodded in unison.
"So what are we wanting to do today?" CJ asked. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. "Just chilling on the beach or playing beach ball would be fun but I wouldn't mind exploring the mountains." I replied.
"I kinda want to go into the mountains and possibly play ambush?" Connor said and everybody cheered. "Right let's go then." We all got into the car and set off for the mountains we stopped at previously. We grabbed some food from the bag by Paul's seat and had a quick snack. When we reached the lay-by from yesterday Matt pulled in and we climbed out. Tanner decided to take a group photo of us in front of the view.
We then split into the two teams. CJ, Paul and I. Matt, Connor and Tanner. My group was hiding first and we would call somebody from the other group when ready for them to find us. We decided to paint our faces with mud and hide behind a few large rocks just around the corner and a bit further up the mountain. I called Tanner. "Come find us." Then hung up. I turned my notification sounds off so they couldn't find us like that. We could just about see them if we moved slightly. They began to walk in the other direction to us. "So how long do you think it will take for them to find us?" Paul asked. Me and CJ just looked at each other. "I don't know. Maybe like 15 minutes. We could always follow them far behind and sneak up on them and ambush them." I said. Paul and CJ exchanged looks and smiled evily. "Come on then let's go."
We all stood up slowly and crept up behind a tree and followed behind Tanner, Matt and Connor. When we knew they couldn't see us we sprinted towards them. "AMBUSH!" We all screamed. The other group seemed terrified, letting out screams of fear. "Why aren't you hiding. You scared us, we were meant to scare you." Matt grunted. We laughed. "It's your turn to hide." CJ replied.
They all ran off up the hill giggling. Tanner looked back at me for a brief second and smiled before running away with the others. After about a minute, Tanner called me and whispered creepily through the phone "Come and find us" before quickly ending the call.
We began to walk in the direction they first headed in. I kept a look out behind us so they couldn't sneak up on us like we did with them. Paul led the group up the mountain and we saw them laying with their heads down just behind a rock. We decided to go across to the right so they didn't see us coming towards them and then began to approach slowly. We managed to get further up the mountain and so could sneak across towards them. We silently sprinted towards them. Just as we reached them, we screamed and they all looked up at us in fear.
As we came to a halt, I lost my balance and slipped on a mud patch. I fell on my butt and slid rapidly down the mountain side towards Tanner. I knocked him over and he ended up landing straight on top of me. Everybody Laughed insanely. "Tanner, You okay?" I asked unable to move very easily. I tried to lean on my elbows and push myself up. He didn't respond. "Tanner?" Matt walked over to us. He pushed Tanner off me and looked at him. His eyes were closed and he I could see some blood beginning to drip down his head. "Guys we need to get him to hospital now!" I shouted and pointed at the blood.
Matt walked away from us and dialled for an ambulance. I applied pressure to Tanners head and the others stood around me as I held Tanners lifeless body in my arms. "It's going to be okay Tan. We will sort this out." I whispered as a tear rolled down my cheek. Why did everything I do end up in somebody being hurt? This was my idea to come back here. I shouldn't have said anything. We should have just stayed on the beach and it would be so much safer.
After about twenty minutes I heard sirens coming up the mountain side. Matt ran carefully down to the road to get their attention and bring the paramedics up to us. They pulled up next to the car and Matt led them up towards us. "Can anybody tell me what happened please?" I began to panic. One of the paramedics looked at me. "I slipped from there to here and I managed to knock him over. It was an accident and I didn't mea-" I was cut off by the paramedic. I felt my breathing shift and I knew that I was going to get bad. "That's okay, thank you." They muttered between themselves and lifted him onto a stretched and lifted him slowly down the mountain and into the ambulance. "One person can come in" The paramedic stated and everybody gestured to me. "You go" Matt said. "We will follow behind." I nodded trying to catch my breath. They slammed the doors and we set off.
"I'm so sorry Tanner."
