We've all heard the whole 'chocolate kills dogs so Remus ate it in hope of killing the wolf in him' theory, but what if he likes chocolate because of James?
Like one Quidditch match a Bludger hits Remus either accidentally or 'accidentally' and being this absolute dork who has no clue at all chocolate kills dogs, James gave Remus a bar of chocolate after Sirius fixed his broken nose and goes on to explain rather sheepishly it's what his mother always gave him as a kid when he was upset and he thought it was really good so he hoped it might help.
So although Remus has never been a fan of chocolate due to the wolf and whatnot, he finds the chocolate delicious because it carries concern from his best mates and that is what truly warms him up inside.
And he always eats it because in some sense, he feels like his friends are all there once again, surrounding him with laughter and filling him with joy and after October 1981, bittersweet tears.
And on 1st September 1993, he finds it only fair that the boy with his father's appearance and mother's eyes tastes a bit of James' comfort.
Forcing himself to smile kindly at the boy who should have known him since birth, he gives him some chocolate and repeats the exact same words James had said that day.
"Eat it. It'll help." It always helped me.
