• So Hagrid says to Harry that unicorns can outrun werewolves, right?
• Well, what if he's ACTUALLY seen it happen
• So it's somewhere in the Forbidden Forest, 1975, and Hagrid is just returning from talking to the centaurs or something
• When he sees this unicorn just dashing through the forest faster than anything he's ever seen, like it's a white blur
• He stands there, enchanted because we all KNOW Hagrid would be absolutely in awe of this kind of thing
• And then, after the unicorn is a couple seconds out of sight, a werewolf comes running onto the scene
• Obviously the werewolf has been chasing the unicorn for some unknown reason
• Hagrid is just about wondering if he should help when this massive black dog comes out of complete left field and just tackles the werewolf to the ground
• Then comes a huge stag, stamping a hoof and bellowing at both of them
• There is a rat on his antlers for some reason?? but Hagrid thinks he might be imagining the grey thing on the stag's antlers so he doesn't end up remembering this
• Anyway, this somehow manages to give both creatures pause, and the dog and stag start herding the werewolf away from the scene
• Hagrid never forgets this for the rest of his life
• Meanwhile, the next day in the hospital wing, Remus wakes up and as usual asks anxiously if he hurt anyone in his werewolf form
• "Mate, last night was wild. You went after a unicorn"
• "I'm sorry, I did what?"
• So the boys recount the whole thing
• "I had no idea unicorns could run that fast," Sirius adds in a sort of amazement
• "I think Hagrid might have seen us," Peter says worriedly. "I mean, I saw him looking our way last night"
• "Why would Hagrid be in the Forbidden Forest?"
• "He's gamekeeper, remember? Besides, you know how he loves his magical creatures, and the Forest is chock full of them"
• Sirius shrugs it off
• "Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be fine. It's not like you had a sign saying 'I AM REMUS LUPIN' taped to your back'"
• This gets a chuckle out of Remus, and soon enough the experience just becomes a laugh for them
• And this is why Hagrid is under the impression that a werewolf appears in the Forbidden Forest every full moon
