When his friends were feeling especially bad about themselves, James would write a list labeled "Why (insert troubled friend) is awesome" and give it to them. The length usually depended on who the receiver was and James' mood at the time.
It wasn't just the Marauders. This extended to all of his friends, and sometimes even Professor McGonagall.
So when James himself felt down or unhappy with himself, it was his turn to find a 4-foot long scroll titled "Why James Fleamont 'Prongs' Potter is awesome" on his bed. At the bottom were the words "Signed, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Lily, Marlene, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and Mary".
All of them highly treasured each of these scrolls.
