My vision was fading in and out. I couldn't move my shoulders very well and it felt like I was going to die right then and there. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my phone. I called Jake and tried to hold my phone to my ear.
"Ren, is everything ok?"
"Come to this location," I said and told him my location.
"On it. Should I get Y/N and Hinata?"
"No. Fill them in, though."
"I will."
"Thank you. Come quickly."
I hung up and waited for Jake. I closed my eyes for a minute and the next, I was being rushed into the hospital. I was still on my stomach when they got me on to the operating table. I was put under anesthesia. I opened my eyes and saw it was morning. A doctor was walking into the room as I opened my eyes.
"Ah, you're awake."
"What happened?" I mumbled.
"You were shot in both of your shoulders. Fortunately, our team of doctors were successfully able to get the bullets out of your shoulders. As for the knife slashes on your back, they weren't too good."
"I've gotten worse."
"We could tell. Two long whip scars as well as smaller scars. Your back is messed up."
"It happens."
"You sustained twenty-eight slashes. It was quite a lot from what we've seen. You currently have more than a hundred stitches in your back. That means you can't have water run through your stitches, can't wear tight clothing, can't lay on your back unless you're wearing protective covering. If you have cover for it, you can do all of those things."
"Thank you," I said.
"You're still a bit loopy from the anesthetics. You might fall asleep in a few minutes."
"Ok."
There was a knock on the door. I got up and opened it to see Jake.
"Jake, how is everything?"
"Alright, but I need to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"Ren's in the hospital."
"He is?"
"Yeah. He was shot in both of his shoulders and had a lot of knife slashes on his back. You can visit him in the hospital."
"Thank you, Jake."
"You're welcome."
He walked away from the door frame and I closed the door. I locked the door and turned my back to it. The air that was clogged in my throat was released. Tears slid down my face and I slid down to the floor. I put my knees to my chest and put my head in between my legs. I cried and I heard Hinata walk up to me and put her hand on my arm.
"Why mama cry?"
"I'll tell you, sweetie."
I picked Hinata up and grabbed her shoes. I put her shoes on and we walked out of the apartment. We headed down towards the hospital. I entered and walked to the front desk.
"Is Ren Amamiya here?"
"He is. Room 456 on the fourth floor."
"Thank you," I said.
"Thank you!" Hinata smiled and waved to the lady. The lady smiled back and waved to Hinata. I walked over to the elevator and pressed the up button. The doors opened up and I let Hinata press the button for the fourth floor. When we reached the fourth floor, we found room 456 and I headed in. Ren was sleeping on his stomach. I set Hinata down and she ran over to her father's side. She shook him a little bit, but Ren didn't open his eyes. I walked over to where Hinata was and sat beside her.
"Why dad no wake up?" she looked over at me.
"He's sleeping, Hinata. Better let him rest."
I looked at the table beside him and looked at the overview. I picked up the papers and looked at it. Two bullets in the shoulder and there were twenty-eight slashes on his back. A long time for him to have stitches and he wasn't allowed to shower, wear tight clothing, or sleep on his back unless he had protective covering for it. I sighed, thinking back to when he was whipped twice and I had to take care of him. I stood up and moved the blanket down a bit. I looked at the slash marks and quickly pulled the blanket back up. It was too much for me. An hour had passed and Ren finally opened his eyes. He looked a bit disoriented, but he instantly recognized us.
"Y/N, Hinata, what are you doing here?"
"We wanted to check up on you," I said.
"Daddy awake!" she smiled. He smiled and sat up. I lifted Hinata up and set her next to Ren. She hugged him and Ren held her close.
"Who did this to you?" I asked.
"A detective named Goro Akechi."
"Him? I heard about him when I was in high school."
"He was pretty famous for being a young detective. He did work with the Phantom Thieves, but he eventually betrayed us. He wanted to see our empire fall and he tried to do the same thing to me. That's why I had those scars on my back before your father's shadow caused more scars. He tried to kill me by almost killing me in the metaverse. Thankfully, my team was there to help me out of there."
"I'm sorry that happened to you."
"It's alright."
"Are you going to do anything about it?"
"I want to get his ass in jail."
"Go get 'em, daddy!" Hinata smiled.
Ren smiled and kissed her head, "I'll try my hardest."
"How long are you going to be in here?"
"At least a few days. They want to make sure there is no infection in my shoulders and my cuts. After that, they're going to stitch up the cuts and the bullet holes."
"They look bad."
"It is constantly stinging. I hate that feeling."
"It must suck to sleep on your stomach."
"Yeah. I also hate sleeping on my stomach."
"Bet the food here sucks too."
"Your's is like eating something that came from heaven," he smiled.
I smiled at him and gave him a long, loving kiss.
