Chapter 39

A few days had passed and I was released from the hospital. Ren and I headed back to the apartment. I found Jake was watching over Hinata.

"Mommy!" she cried and ran over to me.

I smiled and picked her up from the ground. I hugged her and kissed the top of her head. She looked down at my neck and saw the stitches.

"What are these, mommy?" she asked and reached over to them. I took her hand and shook my head.

"Mom is not going to be able to talk for a little while, Hinata. And don't mess around with her stitches," Ren said.

"Ok, daddy," she said.

"Thank you again, Jake," Ren said.

"It's not a problem. She's quite the cutie," he said.

I put Hinata down and she ran over to Jake and hugged his leg.

"What do you say, Hinata?" Ren asked.

"Thank you, Jake," she said.

Ren picked her up and kissed the top of her head. Jake walked over to me and rested his hand on my shoulder. "I hope you recover soon."

I nodded my head and he left the room. That night, Ren made dinner and he put Hinata down for bed. I was in the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror. I looked at the stitches that were on my stomach, chest, and neck. I ran my hand lightly over the ones on my neck. I winced a bit, since they were still new. I grabbed the ointment they had given me and placed it around the areas that had stitches on them. I sighed and Ren came in and wrapped his arms around my waist. He rested his head on my shoulder and rubbed his hands against my stomach, being mindful of the stitches.

"What's the matter, love?"

"These stitches," I whispered.

"I know you want them out as soon as you can, but they still need to heal. And then you're going to have to worry about scars."

I turned around and faced him. I hugged him and ran my hands up and down his back.

"I know what you mean, love. At least we can heal together," he said and kissed my cheek. 

That night, I had woken up due to a nightmare of what recently happened. Instead of me getting cut by Akechi, it was Ren. And I wasn't there to get him to the hospital. I couldn't do anything. I jolted awake and looked around the room. Ren was still asleep and Hinata was in her bed. I sighed and got up. I walked over to the bathroom and splashed some water in my face. I wiped it off the water and looked at my stitches. Like Ren when he got his stitches, I wasn't allowed to wear tight clothing unless I had protection covering it. So I was sleeping in a pair of his sweatpants and a bra. I sighed once again looking at my stitches.

"What's wrong, babe?" Ren asked as he stood sleepy in the door frame.

"Oh, it's nothing."

"Are you sure it's nothing?" he asked and stumbled over to me. He yawned and looked in the mirror. "Are you looking at your stitches again?"

"Not really. I had a nightmare."

He wrapped his arms around my waist and I wrapped mine around his neck. Tears welled up and slipped down my cheek. I cried in his shoulder, even though he didn't have a shirt on. He pulled away and cupped my cheeks. He put his forehead against mine and his breathing calmed me down. He pressed his lips against mine and I kissed back. It was a warm, soft kiss. The feeling of his lips against mine was enough to calm me down and make me want to go back to bed. He pulled away and gave me a quick peck on the cheek.

"Don't let what happened get to you. Besides, we have to be there when he's on trial. We're one of the witnesses."

"Do you know when we're going?"

"In about a month."

I sighed, "Alright."

"You should head back to sleep. You seem tired."

"Yeah," I said and headed back over to the bed. I got in and Ren got in after me. He pulled the covers over top of us and wrapped his arms around my waist. He slowly rubbed his hand up and down my stomach, making me doze off and fall asleep.

~1 Month~

A month had passed and Jake had to watch Hinata while we were going to the courthouse for Akechi's trial. I helped Ren with his tie once he had his suit on.

"I haven't worn a suit since our wedding," he said as he looked at himself in the mirror.

"It's been a while since I wore a dress," I said. 

During the month, the doctors took out the stitches and I was left with three nasty scars. They said that due to the damage on my neck, there was slight damage to my vocal cords. Which meant there could possibly be times where my voice would break or it would be lower or higher than normal. Ren had gotten used to it since it happened right after they took out the stitches. The scar on my neck was very noticeable. I tried hiding it with a higher cut t-shirt or dress. Nothing worked. I looked at the scar and Ren came over and saw me looking at it.

"You're going to be alright. I promise."

"I know," I said and hugged him. He kissed my cheek and smiled. "Wait a minute," I said and headed into the bathroom. I walked out with some gel and ran some through his hair. He had his hair slicked back for one occasion and that was it. "You look nice with your hair slicked back."

"Think so?" he asked.

"Yeah. You look handsome."

He smiled and gave me a quick peck on the lips. "Are you ready?"

"As I'll ever be," I said and walked out of the room. Hinata was in the kitchen with Jake.

"Thank you again, Jake."

"It's no problem. I love getting to see Hinata every now and then," he said.

Hinata jumped down from the chair and ran over to me and Ren. I picked her up and kissed the top of her head. 

"We'll see you soon, Hinata," I said.

"Good luck, mommy!"

"See ya, Hinata," Ren said and kissed her forehead. 

"Go get 'em, daddy!" she smiled.

He took Hinata from me and gave her a big hug. He set her on the ground and we headed out of the apartment. Our lawyer was waiting for us at the front of the building. We got into her car and she drove us to the courthouse. While we were driving, I reached down and took Ren's hand. He pulled my hand up and kissed my knuckle. 

"We'll win this case. Don't you worry, Y/N."

"I know we will."

~Hey everyone! So this is almost the end of the story. I am so thankful that you have read this story and made it the first successful Persona 5 story. I have informed all of you, but I will reiterate myself. I will not be here the next time I am supposed to update which is the 29th. So When I get back the next time I update, which is July 2nd (we're almost halfway done with 2019), and I will upload the last chapter and begin with a new story.
