That name was enough for Zuhaan's transformation. In a fraction of seconds, Zuhaan lost his cool. It looked as if he had forgotten who was in front of him, where he was, or even who he was. He was in a complete state of volcanic eruption. Zuhaan was yelling at Parvez. He was spitting fireballs. Parvez did not know what to do at that moment. Zuhaan was in no mood for any kind of consoling or explanations. Zaid was in a state of mixed emotions, The first thought that came across his mind was What made her agree?, he was thinking about Shiza and at the same time he was looking at Zuhaan's condition, Baba is spoiling lives he thought to himself. Zuhaan picked up a vase from near the table and bashed it against the floor. This voice broke Zaid out of his thoughts, he rushed to grab Zuhaan and held him tight, but he was in no control. Parvez then gained all his courage and then announced,
"You cannot break your promise!".
This statement paused the entire play, as if a video is paused at peak eruption, and he looked at him confused. Parvez then took this opportunity, to not explain but revise and re-state that Zuhaan had made a promise 12 years ago in his study room.
A promise that Zuhaan made to his father 12 years ago at the age of 15.
After that statement Parvez had a spark of certainty and authority in his eyes. Zuhaan, however, was still in rage and his eyes were hot, but for some reason, the beast slept. Zuhaan pushed Zaid off him and left the hall. He paced fast towards his room. Zaid then asks Parvez as to what tamed the beast. Parvez was silent, but relaxed that he played the correct card at the right moment. Parvez sat down on the sofa and again, looked at the Blue and golden door, this time with satisfaction and happiness in his eyes.
Zuhaan was still in rage, he thought to himself that his one promise lead to this. He never had thought that this unspoken promise can cause this much damage, can alter his course of life. He knew that Parvez doesn't trust him when it comes to choosing relations or life partner, Zuhaan looked around his room, and thought to himself that now he will have to share this room, with Shiza? His wardrobe, his balcony, his bathroom, his bed, his life? She will have right over all of it, his life, his time, his name and she will have right over him.
"How can he possibly think I can live with someone?", he asked this question to the oblivion, "And that too her?"
The better question here was, Can someone live with him? Shiza displayed same category of emotion, She was heartbroken and helpless. She was marrying a person, she never would have even talked to in her life. All she wanted was for her family to live peacefully without the debt. She could not share her sorrow with Ammo or Anni or Mamu obviously, also she cannot go to her best friend Zareen, as she will never let Shiza take this decision. She also hated herself for breaking Ashar's heart. She had nowhere to go, no one to turn to. Today she truly missed her Parents. She walked to her dressing table and sat quietly for hours, shedding tears, without saying a word. She knew what she was signing up for, she has seen Zuhaan in his Rage up-close. She stared at the large mirror and the carving that reminded her of her mother and father. She looked at the weeping damsel in distress through the mirror, as if asking her to keep calm. She had questions in her eyes, for her parents, who left her alone to deal with all this. She, for the first time felt entirely ALONE.
The two of the opposite worlds were about to collide, that will crash together and try to merge. One of them was surely about to be crushed completely. This marriage was not about intermixing; it was not a friendly match. This was about War, competition, collision in which one of them was surely about to fall and crash, was about to lose themselves to another. One was a complete dominant, rules, live the way he wants and another? Never has lived the way she wants. Parvez was fitting two pieces of sperate puzzle into one single picture, Will this form a new picture? Another question here was, the Blue door, that was a mystery in the Seraj Villa. The door that had such deep effect on Parvez, a mystery only he knew and no one allowed to solve, even his dear sons.
