En Route Washington DC

"Aquaman and Martian Manhunter?" Finch asked her mentor.

"That seems pretty risky," Finch's twin, Robin, supplied.

"All other League members are otherwise occupied with the protection of their own cities. Arthur and J'onn know the risks. They're prepared to face them. All of us are." Batman stiffly replied

"Wouldn't we be able to take Pyro down by ourselves?" Robin asked desperately.

"If what Superman and Captain Atom have told me about Pyro is true, them we'll need all the help we can get," Batman said grimly, and the twins could hear in his voice that he was as worried about Aquaman and Manhunter as they were, "Even if that help comes from a Martian and an Atlantean."

Finch was silent the rest of the trip to DC, which wasn't very long. To keep herself occupied, in the remainder of the short trip, Finch reviewed the League's files on Pyro.

Apparently, Pyro was a fifteen-year-old girl whose DNA had been modified. The modifications, unspecicfied, were immunity to and control over fire. She was a little taller than five feet, with short black hair, red eyes, and wore a black suit with a red jacket. She carried no weapons, because she could create them out of the flames. She was very adept in martial arts and had quite a knack at sarcastic remarks in Flash's opinion. No one knew if someone controlled the seemingly uncontrollable teenager or if she was working for her own purposes.

Finch was pulled from her reading as Robin shouted that they had arrived at the Hall of Justice.

The two hardly waited for a mentor's permission before the bounded down the ramp. She and Robin stared longingly at the beautiful building reflecting in the afternoon sun scarcely able to wait for the next day, but Martian Manhunter's conference with Batman interrupted their daydreams.

"Aquaman said that he and Aqualad would meet us at the docks, and according to the local news reports, Pyro is located there as well." Manhunter informed Batman, who nodded solemnly, motioning for the twins to get back on board.

They did so slowly, wishing for today to quickly become tomorrow.

Tomorrow was the day.

It was hard for Finch to believe that only five years ago she and her brother had discovered that the man who had adopted them, Bruce Wayne, was really the Batman! Finch's name was really Emma, and Robin's name was really Richard, though everyone called him Rick. They had both taken on codenames when they agreed to become Batman's apprentices. Like Batman, neither of them had any superpowers, but they were both experts at acrobatics, athletics, computers (Robin really enjoyed hacking), disguise, and stealth.

At first, Batman had been the only member of the Justice League who had apprentices, but now Robin and Finch were joined by Speedy, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

Tomorrow was the Fourth of July, Independence Day. Tomorrow, Finch and her friends would show their own independence, taking the first step to becoming members of the Justice League.

Even thought she was thirteen, Emma desperately wanted to be a League member, just like her hero, Hawkwoman. She was one of the only three female members of the League. Wonder Woman, Black Canary, and Hawkwoman captivated Finch's dreams even before she took up super-heroing.

Suddenly, the jet was hit by some sort of projectile, and shook violently. Finch, who had forgotten to buckle her seat belt, was thrown on top of Robin, but Manhunter simply floated out of the way
