Chapter Twenty- The New Girl

Mount Justice

"Hi-yah!" I cried, landing a kick in Superboy's chest, using my electric powers to fuel my movements, just as Willow had been teaching me.

Willow herself sat on the side of the ring, in an easy chair next to Wally. She was still recovering from her bout of fever, and Wally was exempt from training.

"Good job everyone," Canary said, "You've all made some excellent progress this week."

Artemis gave an unladylike snort, "Yeah, everyone except Kid Malingerer."

I swear, she took every available opportunity to insult Wally, which only showed how much she paid attention to him. I noticed how she didn't seem to object to Willow skipping out on training.

"Hey!" Wally objected, holding up the cast on his wrist, "Arm broken in combat against the Injustice League!"

Canary shook her head at their antics, "I've really enjoyed being your, uh, Den Mother, this week."

"Recognize, Zatara, 11." Announced the zeta-tubes. Zatara appeared and began to type something on the computer console next to the tubes.

"Recognize: Zatanna Zatara. A03. Authorization: Zatara. 11."

A girl who looked almost exactly like me appeared next to Zatara. She had blue eyes and pale skin, like me and Robin, and raven-black hair, like my brother. 

"Zatanna, this is the team," Zatara told the girl, pointing in our direction with his cane, "Team, this is my daughter, Zatanna."

M'gann and I walked (and floated) forward to introduce ourselves.

"Hi, I'm-"

"Robin!" I was surprised by my brother's sudden rudeness as he cut off M'gann. Alfred had taught us better than that!

"I mean, I'm Robin, not them. That's M'gann, my sister Dragonfire, Wally, Willow, Artemis, Kaldur, and Connor," He pointed at each of us in turn, and we each offered a smile or a nod in greeting. To myself, I smirked. Richard John Grayson tounge-tied over a girl? This was getting interesting...

"Um...hi," Zatanna said, barely above a whisper. 

"Are you here to join the team?"  I asked eagerly.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," Zatara put a hand on his daughter's shoulder, "This is strictly a visit. Although I am sorry we missed the training," He apologized to Black Canary, "It's something from which Zatanna could benefit."

"Do you guys get the feeling we're still on probation with Zatara?" M'gann asked via mindlink while Zatara and Canary continued to talk.

"It's not just him, why's Captain Marvel still hanging around?" Connor asked, referring to the guy who had been bringing Wally and Willow nachos and pineapple juice for the past half-hour. He seemed almost too eager to please.

"Because we like having him around," Wally told Connor.

"You like having him around because he waits on you hand and foot!" Artemis pointed out.

"And your point is?" Wally asked her, clueless as usual.

"He is kind of cute, and why can't he stick around? It's like having our own little fanboy, and as Artemis said, he likes helping us out," I put in.
