Mount Justice.
~~Willow~~
M'gann walked in to make our lunches. She gave me a bright, friendly smile, which made me feel a little better about having to go to school. Why couldn't I just stay in the cave with Kaldur, Sphere, and Dragonfire? As I walked back to my room, I wondered absentmindedly who wanted me to go in the first place. My first thought was Black Canary. She seemed determined to catch me up to everyone else on the team, but I've always wondered why. Finally, I got to my room and opened my drawers. I decided on a sky blue t-shirt, dark wash blue jeans, my cream-colored crop jacket, and a pair of red converse. Then I returned to the kitchen for some breakfast.
"Good morning, Willow,"
I jumped and turned around. It was Canary, who was sitting at the table with a plate of toast in front of her.
"Good morning, Canary," I said back, which made her smile.
"You know that you'll be using your civilian identity for school already, but we wanted to make an adjustment to your new identity." She told me, gesturing for me to sit down with her. I did so.
"All right. Name it," I said, grabbing a piece of buttered toast and nibbling on it.
"Well, as you know, everyone on the team has a guardian of some kind, and the League has asked me to act as your mother in public settings so people don't ask awkward questions, and change your name to Willow Dinah Lance as a part of that cover, to match my last name. Is this all right with you?"
I choked on my bit of toast. She really wasn't one to mince words, was she? I don't really know how to feel about this, but the League seemed to think it was necessary for my cover, and I wouldn't really mind having a mother figure to look up to, so...
"It's fine with me." I manage to choke out. A bit of toast was stuck in my throat. M'gann came over and hit me on the back a few times until I stopped choking.
"Good." Canary's smile grew. "Martian Manhunter will, of course be M'gann's uncle, and Red Tornado has agreed to serve as Superboy's guardian...for as long as necessary." She finished awkwardly. I wanted to ask about Superman, I had heard about him from the other team members, but then I noticed Superboy, staring at his toast silently and thought better of it.
"What do you want for lunch?" M'gann asked me.
"Surprise me." I said, though I wasn't sure I wanted any more surprises today.
Just a couple hours later, it was time for school. It was a short walk from Mount Justice, so we would be walking in. I had a white backpack to carry my books in with a couple of buttons pinned on for decoration, and a schedule clutched in my hands. M'gann was in her human form, with the same outfit she wore when we went shopping (and a faint blush on her face for some reason), and Superboy had on a plain black shirt, jeans and a brown jacket. Dragonfire fussed over my hair, which was naturally a bit messy, and then she, Aqualad, Canary, Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado, and Sphere waved to us as we left.
"Connor, are you excited for our first day?" M'gann asked suddenly as we walked on.
"Who's Connor?" I asked back.
"Oh, hello, Megan!" M'gann said, hitting herself on the forehead "I forgot to tell you Superboy's new name! Connor Kent. Isn't it nice?"
"Yes." I said slowly. The name "Connor" sounded very familiar, but I couldn't pinpoint it.
In response to M'gann's question, Super- I mean, Connor, merely grunted.
"My civilian name is Megan Morse, so in school, try your best to call me "Megan", ok?"
