The Batplane, En Route Jump City
Finch checked the contents of her belt one more time, picking out the electric disks one by one. It had been a month since DC, and she wanted no more reminders of that day.
She held the last one in her hand. This one was scarred, not shiny and mirrorlike, as the rest of those she'd discarded. She found the small, finger-sized dent on the rim, bent by Atlantean strength. Without another moment of deliberation, she put the disk back in the pocket on the back of her belt, now empty except for the one disk.
Jump City, California was all the way on the other side of the country. Joker usually kept his shenanigans within Gotham, trying to focus on breaking Batman and his sidekick- companions- but the circumstances of this little scheme of his seemed to require a road trip.
Finch held her arm out in front of her, calling up the holo-computer built into her glove, to read the files he had obtained on the ray, whatever it was called, invented by Lexcorp and stolen by the Joker. It didn't reveal what this ray could do, that was in some other obscure file, but the files Batman had been able to hack on such short notice had been so highly classified it made him worry. Not to mention the storm Luthor was working up on the news over his lost device.
After almost hour of flying in the jet, The trio reached Jump City, and quickly located the massive energy signal coming from Lexcorp's newest toy.
"I'll distract the guards, you two take out that device." Batman commanded before they all leaped off the ramp and descended upon the unnamed island. On autopilot, the jet flew off into the distance, waiting to be called if one of the three needed it.
Finch was on guard. Only a few of Joker's men were stationed on the island, identified by their clown facepaint and masks. Where was the Joker himself?
Two reckless guards made the mistake of charging at Batman as he landed, but Batman was, well, Batman. He threw a couple of smoke pellets on the ground, leaving the guards blinded and making quick work of them.
While the fifty or so guards were distracted by Batman, Finch and Robin snuck around back to the ray, and a single guard left behind to keep an eye on it. At the moment, it seemed to be non-operational, but the guard was pressing random buttons on the console, looking up nervously at Batman every once in a while. Apparently, they'd neglected to steal the instruction manual as well.
Finch pointed to the guard, then to herself, pulling out her long, extendable bo staff. Robin nodded.
While the left-behind guard grew increasingly nervous, as Batman was running out of opponents, Finch snuck up behind him and knocked him on the back of his head with all her strength. He slumped forward over the console.
"Nice one!" Finch high-fived her twin as he plugged a cord into the cannon's computer and called up the holo-computer in his glove. That's when they noticed the countdown flashing on the small digital screen.
"Okay, maybe that wasn't the best idea," Finch admitted, plugging in her own computer to help. Maybe the joker-goon didn't have an idea of how to work it, but neither did they.
"Alright, taking out the gunner was mostly aster without the dis, but hacking into this thing is definitely not whelming," Robin said as his fingers flew over the holographic keyboard.
"Again with the words?" Finch sighed dramatically. English wasn't their first language, even if they spoke it more fluently than Romani.
"Maybe it'll work faster with the two of us." She offered. With a deep breath, she pushed her headband back and did the best that she could.
