Mount Justice

~~Emma~~

We sat at a table and watched the adults fix up our headquarters. I held in my arms a certain yellow-furred kitten that had been asleep in my room during the entire raid on the cave. M'gann and Artemis took turns petting him, while Willow boredly played with her powers, which amused Justice more than the attention he was getting.

Green Arrow brought over a bowl of pretzels, which Kid Flash instantly rejected, surprisingly. "Thanks, but no thanks," he muttered

"Yeah! What we want are answers! About Red Tornado and his siblings!" Robin exclaimed.

"Exactly!" Kid agreed, "Leave the bowl," he said when Green Arrow began to take it away.

Connor suddenly shot away from the table at Kaldur, who was talking to Batman, "You knew?!" He screamed in anger.

"What the heck, Superboy?" I shouted. I jumped out of my seat and into the fray.

"That android, and his maniac family, nearly killed M'gann!" He ignored me and continued to rant at Kaldur.

"Connor, what are you doing?" M'gann asked as she flew over.

"Kaldur knew we had a traitor among us and said nothing!"

"You knew?"

"And you didn't tell us?" Robin and Wally accused.

"I sought to protect the team from-"

"From what?" Artemis snapped, "Knowledge that might have saved our lives?"

"You almost died!" Connor reminded Megan. Her face fell at the memory.

My head spun as my teammates shouted back and forth, and I gripped the edge of the table, trying to process everything. Wildfire stayed silent too, massaging her ear to clear it.

Kaldur knew that someone was a traitor, and he didn't tell anyone. How did he know this? Where did he find it out? What was he trying to protect us from?

I suddenly remembered Sportsmaster's taunts at the summit in Rhelasia. I dismissed it as bluffing, a distraction. Bruce did extensive research on every team member, though I suppose he couldn't have known too much about those like Connor and Willow, those with no memory or no backstory to look into. I didn't want to distrust everyone. I didn't want to be paranoid and suspicious and cynical all the time, like he was.

I pounded my fist on the table. If Sportsmaster wasn't bluffing, then we had a mole on the team, someone passing on information to our enemies. I should have considered it, started investigating, it wouldn't have hurt to try.

But Kaldur recognized the possibility. He really was a good leader. He recognized the possibility and followed through with it. And he didn't tell me.

I trusted Kaldur. I'd known him for two years. He'd trusted me with his secret about Tula, but it kind of stung to think that, maybe, he didn't trust me fully. Could he really think I was the mole?

"Enough," Batman hushed us with a single word, and enforced his order with the Bat-glare.

Connor reluctantly let go of Kaldur's shirt to listen to instructions.
