Chapter 5

For the last couple of hours I've been with Tony and Bruce in the lab looking for the whereabouts of the cube and Clint. Don't get me wrong I want Clint back more than anything but there's only so much science talk I can handle without wanting to pull my hair out.

Walking through the canteen with plate in hand I head over to the far corner where I normally sit with Nat only to find it occupied by a certain super soldier who is staring at his food in confusion making me stiff a laugh.

"You mind if I join you Cap?" I ask placing my plate down next to him, making him jump and look up at me

"Of course" Steve says and I swing my legs over the bench and sit next to him

"You know your food won't hurt you right?l I ask with a chuckle as he picks at his food and he smiles at me

"It's just we used to boil everything" Steve says

"Right. You know my entire life my Dad was always telling me stories about you. It was pretty annoying actually, but I can't blame him you are pretty incredible Cap" I say taking a bite out of my sandwich

"Your pretty incredible yourself, I read your file." Steve tells me smiling

"I thought I told Fury no one could read my file" I reply with a smile

"Sorry" Steve says

"Don't be, it's fine. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna head back to the lab" I say standing up with my plate and walking around the table "see ya later Cap" I call over my shoulder as I walk through the canteen.

"The gamma readings are definitely consistent with Selvig's reports on the Tesseract. But it's gonna take weeks to process." Bruce explains as I scroll through the screen in front of me

"If we bypass their mainframe and direct a reroute to the Homer cluster, we can clock this around six hundred teraflops." Tony says to us

"All I packed was a tooth brush." Bruce says with a nervous smile

"You know, you should come by STARK TOWERS sometime. Top ten floors, all R&D. You'd love it, it's candy land." Tony says politely which isn't common with him and he never just invites people to he tower

"Thanks, but the last time I was in New York I kind of broke...Harlem." Bruce says scratching his neck awkwardly

"Well, I promise a stress free environment. No tension. No surprises." I reassure Bruce with a smile as Tony for some reason pokes him with a mini electrical prod just as Steve walks in

"Nothing?" Tony ask s when Brussels doesn't react

"Hey! Are you nuts?" Steve asks annoyed at Tony

"You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret? Mellow jazz? Bongo drums? Huge bag of weed?" Tony asks Bruce ignoring Steve

"Is everything a joke to you?" Steve asks Tony

"Funny things are." Tony replies with a smirk

"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship isn't funny. No offense, doctor." Steve tells Tony before turning and facing Bruce

"No, it's alright. I wouldn't have come aboard if I couldn't handle pointy things."Bruce says making me laugh a bit

"You're tiptoeing, big man. You need to strut." Tony tells Bruce as he eats some blueberries

"And you need to focus on the problem, Mr. Stark" Steve says getting annoyed which is making him look pretty hot, not gonna lie

"You think I'm not? Why did Fury call us and why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us? I can't do the equation unless I have all the variables" Tony fires back walking closer to Steve
