Chapter 22

"Ultron knows we're coming. Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out."

I run through the streets of Sokovia, helping men, women and children to safety, not caring about the robots at this very second. I look around as I help people evacuate and I send a nod to Wanda who is nearby getting people to also evacuate.

"All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today. But we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done, and find out what Ultron's been building. We find Romanoff, and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him. It's about whether he's right."

"When we get back, remind me to check if he does actually write those speeches down before hand" I say to Wanda as I walk past her making her smile

Throwing fire at all the robots, I narrowly dodge one that comes up behind me so grabbing my taser I electrocute it, making it fall down. I aim a blast at the robot ahead of me but as I do, the ground starts to shake and cracks. Ground beside me starts ever so slowly to rise up, quickly I step onto the ground rising upwards and soon regain my balance.

"Okay is it just me or are are we rising upwards?" I ask as I look around in confusion

"Sokovia is going for a ride boss" Friday tell me making me groan in annoyance

"Great first a robot that wants to kill us then the ground going for a ride. What's next a purple giant with a golden glove?" I mutter to myself 

"You can't save them all. You'll never..." Ultron says to Steve as I approach them

"You'll never what? You didn't finish!" Steve calls after knocking Ultron down with his shield and Thor soon arrives "What, were you napping?" Steve asks him before a load of robots head straight for us and quickly I turn a load of rubble into spike and send them straight at the robots, knocking them down

"Alright, we're all clear here." Clint says through the com as me and Steve fight of the robots

"We are not clear! We are very not clear!" Steve tells him as I blast the robots attacking us

"Alright, coming to you" Clint says

"Romanoff!" Steve calls as Nat joins us and he throws his shield at her so she can use it to protect herself from the attacking robot

"Thanks." Nat calls

"You know for a moment I actually thought I'd lost you" I tell her as I kick down a robot

"Can't get rid of me that easily" Nat replies smiling

"Wouldn't have it any other way" I tell her smiling "Besides if  you go then I go too" I add with a smile

"The next wave's gonna hit any minute. What have you got, Stark?" Steve asks walking up beside me and Nat

"Well, nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear." Tony replies

"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan." Steve tells him

"Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're going to have to make a choice." Tony explains

"Honey, these people are going nowhere. If Tony finds a way to blow this rock..." I say turning to Steve

"Not 'til everyone's safe." Steve says to me

"Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there." Nat adds in and I nod in agreement

"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it." Steve tells us

"I didn't say we should leave" I tell him making him look down at me "There's worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?" I ask Steve as I look ahead at the clouds

"Glad you like the view, Stark. It's about to get better." Fury says through the com "Nice, right? I pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but she'll do." Fury continues as the hellicarrier appears making me smirk

"Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve says smiling

"Oooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Fury teases him making me laugh

"Maybe things will be alright after all" I say to Steve with a smile

"When we're done here Stark, I'm taking you out for dinner" Steve tells me smile as Pietro appears beside us

"Sounds good to me Rogers" I tell him, smiling

"This is SHIELD?"Pietro asks smiling at the view

"This is what SHIELD's supposed to be." Steve answers

"This is not so bad." Pietro says smiling

"Let's load 'em up." Steve orders as the lifeboats head towards us

"Yes! Now this is gonna be a good story." Rhodey says as he appears in his suit and I start loading up the lifeboats

"Yep. If you live to tell it." Tony tells him

"You think I can't hold my own?" Rhodey questions as I help a group of children on board before turning and helping more civilians

"We get through this, I'll hold your own." Tony answers

"You had to make it weird." Rhodey says

"He always makes it weird, it's like one of his specialties" I joke as I help everyone onboard
