Chapter Sixteen: Press Conference

Megan sighed watching Sergio and René talk about the press conference that they were about to go into; René thought his brother was an idiot to put Megan under this much pressure while she was pregnant.

But he also knew that if they didn’t do it now, it would only get worse when they finally came out to the public; it was also plausible that Megan’s father would kick-off when he learnt that she was no longer at the home for un-wed mothers.

Sergio rolled his eyes walking away from his brother and over to his girlfriend, Megan smiled at him as he pulled her into a hug; she closed her eyes as she sniffed at his aftershave.

“I’ll see you later,” Sergio promised her as René started out of the front door; he looked at the couple and smiled as he saw the commitment between them.

Megan smiled at Sergio as he pulled away from her giving her one last kiss; she knew that once he had done the press conference then there was no going back.

Megan wrapped her arms around herself as Sergio left with his brother, she couldn’t help but worry about what would happen once Sergio announced that they were dating and expecting their first child.

Megan knew her father wouldn’t take the news well, especially now that she was no longer in St. Paul’s Home for Unwed Mothers; she was going to be cut off from her family when she needed them the most.

Megan walked into the living room, clicking on the television she quickly avoided the gossip shows and channels knowing that they were a buzzing about the news that press conference that Real Madrid were doing today.

Sergio sighed sitting next to Iker and Raul, the newer players sat a little further down from him; Ruud offered the Spaniard a glance before he returned to glaring at Cristiano Ronaldo who was here with some of the newer players.

“How’s Megan?” Iker asked him making Sergio nod at him, Iker was one of the few players who knew that Sergio and his girlfriend were expecting a baby.

It wasn’t much of a secret in the locker room that Sergio and Megan were dating especially since Sergio had given Ruud a black eye for outing their relationship.

“She’s good… I’m glad she’s home,” Sergio said with a small smile, he was glad that he wasn’t doing this press conference alone; it had been his brother’s idea to make it a team conference.

The group of footballers fell silent as they listened to the introductions by their PR Agent, Sergio sighed knowing how boring these things often were.

The questions started to flow mainly about the season ahead and the new team dynamics; Sergio sat quietly as he waited for something to be directed to him, he was hopeful that they quizzed him about Megan.

“This one is for Sergio Ramos… is it true that you are dating Megan Martinez, the daughter of youth coach Gerard Martinez?” a reporter asked making a couple of the new players look at Sergio, it wasn’t a secret that the mention of Gerard Martinez was big news.

Sergio took a deep breath and leant forward, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous about what was going to happen when he confirmed the reporter’s story.

“Megan and I have been dating for over six years now,” Sergio confirmed making a couple of journalists mumble quietly between themselves; he was glad that René had set this up for him.

René had set the entire thing up and had given the reporter questions that would lead to the reveal of their relationship and Megan’s pregnancy to Sergio; it had a lot of work.

“Is it also true… that she’s pregnant with your child?” the reporter asked making the whispers get louder, they all wondered where she was getting this information from.

Mourinho pursed his lips as he looked at the reporter, he had heard what Sergio had planned and he wasn’t pleased that he was doing this on team time when it was personal business.

“Yes this is also true… Megan’s just entered her second trimester,” Sergio said smiling, he couldn’t believe that the pregnancy was going so well and he was hopeful for what would come next for them.

A couple of his team-mates smiled at his words while Ruud looked down feeling a little guilty, Sergio still refused to speak to him and now with Ronaldo playing for Real Madrid his time there was almost up.

Mourinho called an end to the team conference, allowing the team to escape from the journalists who called out to them; as soon as they stepped into the corridor, the players all gathered around Sergio and started to congratulate him.

“I can’t believe you’re becoming a padre, Cuqui,” teased Raul who as he pulled Sergio into a hug, most of the other members laughed at his words; it seemed so unreal that Sergio was going to be a father.

Sergio smiled at them gratefully, he was going to need their support over the next few months; he had no idea what would happen when this news broke.

Megan groaned as she sat down, Marisol had only been too happy to redesign Megan’s entire wardrobe and in the space of three hours; she had changed everything about how the brunette dressed.

“You’ll have to look your best from now on…” Marisol had said while she had pushed Megan into a dressing room at her boutique and started to search for clothes for her.

Megan smiled when she heard Sergio chuckle from behind her as he returned home from the conference, sitting next to her; he smiled at his girlfriend who looked at him.

“How was the press conference?” Megan asked slipping her shoes off, Sergio watched her; he didn’t believe he had been so lucky to have a girlfriend like her and they were going to have a little baby.

“You are now officially a WAG,” Sergio told her making the brunette roll her eyes, chuckling he wrapped an arm around her; he thought for a moment then looked at her again.

Sergio couldn’t help but wonder why his girlfriend looked a little different, her bump was getting bigger and he was nervous about how big their baby would be.

“Marisol gave me a makeover,” Megan explained as she flicked on the television, Sergio nodded as he shifted closer to her; he was happy that she was still close with her friends and she wasn’t alone.

“You look beautiful,” Sergio said making her smile, pressing a kiss to his lips; Megan leant against him, Sergio wrapped his arms around her.

The couple sat quietly watching the television; Megan closed her eyes as she got comfortable making Sergio relaxed as he watched the television.

The couple didn’t care what happened from now on as long as they had one another; Megan looked at Sergio knowing that nothing was going to change how she felt.

“I love you,” Megan whispered softly making Sergio look at her, he brushed his fingers through her hair as she kissed him.

“I love you too,” Sergio breathed, resting a hand on her stomach before he kissed her again; he was going to be a father and he couldn’t wait.
