"Jack how are we going to break it to the kid that everyone in that house is dead?"

"Simple, we don't."

"How are we supposed to do that? We can't just not tell him that his family is dead!"

"Jesus, shut up! Of course we're going to tell him, but not just yet. Let's try and find someone to take him in first."

Officer Dean sighed. "We're not allowed to do that, you know? It's against the rules for us to withhold information like this."

"I don't think that kid can handle being told that right now," Jack's steely gaze was enough to keep Dean silent.

It's been a week since that day, and Peter is back in the system.

The kids at his orphanage tried talking to him, but he didn't want to make friends. Some were scared of him because they heard him screaming at night.

A few families interviewed him, but none wanted him.

"He's to sad."

"Doesn't talk much."

"Looks like a troublemaker."

"My kids are scared of him."

It's been a month since Alicia left him.

He was mad, sad, empty. She promised not to leave him. She promised. But she still left him.

Why.

Why would she lie. She lied to him. Left him.

Now he has no one.

Now he's all alone.

"What do you think about adoption?"

"Pep, do you really think I'd be a good dad?"

Pepper smiled and kissed her husband. "Of course, now stop worrying. I've picked out a place I want to go to."

"Already?"

"Is that a problem for you?" Pepper gave him her 'now is not that time to disagree with me' look.

"No, not at all sweetie pie! How about we go right now?"

"Tony you have a meeting in thirty minutes."

Tony shrugged, "I'd just find another way to get out of it."

And that's how Tony and Pepper Stark ended up at a rundown orphanage.

"Out of all places, you chose this dump?"

Pepper smacked his arm. "I bet a kid would be grateful to get out of this place."

They walked in, no more complaints from Tony, and stood in the lobby.

"Hello?" Pepper called.

"In a minute!" A call from down the Hall was heard.

As the couple waited, they heard a few kids gossiping as they walked by.

"I heard Peter got thrown in the closet last night!"

"Again? Why?"

"I heard him having a nightmare and Ms. Lansky came in and dragged him out of the room."
